DECISION MAKING MATRIX | Role-based Essential Question for School Climate and Online Accountability 1
RECORDING TEMPLATE – SCENARIO D
In a district that does not require an AUP for teaching staff (due to union resistance to developing the policy), a male art teacher
displays an inappropriate screensaver on his laptop being used during class. The screensaver is a revealing picture of another
teacher in another school building during campus field day last year. The picture is a very transparent view of the teacher’s
breasts from a water dunking station during the field day. Other staff members are shown the picture during a team meeting. A
male student helper also sees the picture and informs their parent of the inappropriate display and behavior of the other male
teachers. The parent approaches the computer teacher at the school who is the wife of the male teacher and whose classroom
is directly across the hall from the art room. The computer teacher dismisses the act and makes excuses for her husband. The
parent approaches the principal regarding the screensaver but the principal dismisses the issue for lack of policy and
responsibility for where the image came from.
What should you do? Who should be involved? How can this situation be handled? (List options)
What implications are there in the school and/or community? What could have been done to prevent this?
