Assassin is a game in which Players have to track down and ‘assassinate’ each other using a variety
of simulated assassination techniques. The game is open to everyone and is free to play. It can be
as time consuming as you want to make it, you could decide to spend how much ever time you
want in designing kills and executing them, while life goes on. Once you register, you are both an
assassin and a target: you are assigned to kill someone, while someone else is assigned to kill you.
Your job is to kill your target while preventing your own unfortunate death. Once you have killed
a target, you inherit the target’s target. The game goes on until there is only one person alive.
There are many ways to “kill” a person, the rules below detail a series of ways in which a kill can
be made possible. (See Section 3). The manner of kills is made possible by a variety of “weapons”
you can use ranging from lethal post-its, to water pistols, to even musical bombs! (See Schedule
1 ). Some weapons are free to use for everyone. However, weapons which are easier to use will be
unlocked for you once you have established certain amount of kills.
When you enter the game, you must give yourself an alias. We will have both your real names and
your alias. The only person with access to any participant’s real name will be the administrators,
and your assassin (to help identify you). Once a kill is made, the administrators publicly report the
kill using only aliases so nobody knows all the others participating in the game at any point of
time.
The game is “on-going” at all points of time throughout the week. It does not have its own time
and place, the game is on as long as there isn’t a winner. However, many areas are out-of-bounds
to prevent the game from ruining other aspects of your life, and you can request to be out-of-
bounds for specific events/times, and the Administrator may declare certain times to be a ceasefire
(See Section 6: Play Area). When you eliminate one of your targets from the game you, hopefully,
should feel a well-earned sense of accomplishment, and the Administrator will issue you with a
new target. There are circumstances in which you can eliminate Players who are not on your target
list, but if you do this without justification the Administrator can place you on the ‘John Wick
List’, which essentially means all Players in the game are now targeting you, usually this is quite
an effective deterrent. (See Section 5: Law Enforcement)
When you are killed, you are no longer able to win the game but can still participate as a member
of the Suicide Squad. This acts as a law-enforcement body and hunts down ‘John Wicked’ Players.
However, the entire game is based on trust. The entire game is designed be a morale building
exercise, so what we need are players who show genuine sportsmanship and do not try to cheat the
game. Since the purpose of the game is let people kill in whatever manner they want to, whenever
they want to, it is definitely not possible for us to monitor kills as they happen. Therefore, each
Player has a duty to report events to the Administrator, be they attempts or kills made, or attempts
survived, or even, lamentably, your own death. These help us track who is alive, who is dead, and
communicate this information (through aliases) to the public.
SECTION 1: PRELIMINARY
1. All players must register with details on the google form sent with the email. Registration
with incomplete details will be deemed void.
2. Since we are doing this on a trial basis, the game is limited to a cap of 30 people. You
will receive a confirmation mail with a link to a chatroom server on an App called “Discord”
[please download from Play Store or App Store]. This will be the chatroom where the
players interact with the Administrators, with each other, and where the whole game will
be reported. This email would serve as confirmation of your participation.
3. Once registered, you may back out anytime by sending an email to Varun
(varunsrinivasan03@gmail.com) or Amoga Krishnan (amog1997@gmail.com). But
remember this makes things difficult for us- so we will definitely talk about you behind
your back.
4. While registering, you will also give your alias/codename. The alias will serve as the way
we address you in public or while making announcements. Your alias/codename can be
anything except the real name of a person in GNLU. While only your assassin and the
administrators will know your real name, the objective of the game is that nobody else
should know if you are playing the game at all. Paranoia is endgame.
5. You will also have to install and sign up on an app called “Discord- Free Voice and Text
Chat for Gamers”. This is essentially a chatroom facility, where we have set up a server
dedicated to GNLU’s assassin game. Our confirmation email will send you details on
joining our server. This will be the communication hub which will have 3 channels:
(a) Reporting: you can report kills, attempts, witnesses etc. for giving confirmation about
kills.
(b) Announcements: Where the Administators will give updates, provide confirmation of
kills, update leaderboards, issue new rules and challenges etc.
(c) Doubts: Ask Admininstrator your doubts about the game.
Remember that this communication hub is open to all the players, so only register with
your alias/codename. Do not put your real name, that would just be stupid.
1. Before the game begins, you will be given a card called the (we’ll call it “Target Marker”),
which will have the real name as well as code name of your target. It is your responsibility
to obtain this card from any of the Lit-Ent members covertly- to ensure nobody knows you
are in the game.
2. Once you have eliminated your target, you must take a pen and cross out the card. This is
because that’s a cool thing to do.
3. When you are assassinated, you must hand over your active Target Marker to your assassin.
However, there is no need to hand over your crossed out cards (of those who you have
already killed)- you can keep those as souvenirs of your successful assassin career. But you
must necessarily hand over the active Target Marker to your assassin. They become your
assassin’s next target.
SECTION 3
KILLING A PERSON: HOW TO, WHERE, AND THE INJUSTICE OF IT ALL
1. Targets
• The target the Administrator assigns to you. You will be informed before the game begins who
your first target is by providing you with a card (“Target Marker”) with the real name as well as
pseudonym of the target. Once you have killed your target, he/she will handover his Target Marker
to you, and the person mentioned there will automatically be your next target.
• The assassins who are targeting you. You will not be told you these are, but if you have a Sherlock
Holmes streak in you and discover their identity, you may chose to protect yourself by killing them
pre-emptively. Remember if you randomly kill someone who wasn’t your assassin, we will put
you on the John Wick list.
• Any Player who has been placed on the John Wick List by the Admin.
The ‘assassinating’ of a legal target will remove that Player from the game, bring you closer to
overall victory. However, ‘assassinating’ a Player who was not a legal target will either result in:
(a) John Wicked: We will publicly reveal your real name and codename on the public
chatroom. Everyone will know who you are, and you will become a legal target for
everyone in the game. You won’t survive. Or;
(b) Depending on circumstances, the Administrators may decide to annul the ‘kill’ entirely.
2. Manner of Killing
(a) Since murder isn’t cool, there are limited ways to “kill” a person in this game. These are
all based on simulated assassination techniques. To kill a person, you must use a weapon
on the Target.
(b) Weapons
• Permissible weapons, and the manner of their use that will result in a successful
kill, and how to protect yourself are listed in Schedule I. This is the critical part of
the rules- you must know what kind of weapons are available to you, because you
can choose them according to your target, your schedule, and just how weird you
wanna get.
• Once you begin the game, you are allowed to use all free weapons. Once you reach
a certain number of kills, you get access to more weaponry that makes it easier to
execute kills. All details can be found in the schedule.
• You can protect yourself from guns by wearing Kevlar. Kevlar is basically a neck-
pillow. If you are not wearing a neck-pillow, you are susceptible to guns at all points
of time.
• If your target is someone who has unlocked special weapons (for example, water
gun), killing him/her entitles you to their weapons. (Loot rule). However, you must
expressly confirm with the Administrator, and only use their weapons once you
receive acknowledgement from us.
(c) Finisher Line: You must say something cool or weird or funny like “hasta la vista, mofos”
when you execute your kill. You will be asked what you said when you made your kill,
this is important to us for various reasons (most critical being that the Administrators also
need to have fun, the exemptions don’t justify running this game). If you don’t say
something cool, we may nullify your kill. Therefore, the line has to be clearly
communicated to your target. You may say this line immediately before, or after the act-
we are not too strict on the legalities of how a line was said. All that matters that is should
be said. (For example, for kills involving poison or bombs, you can just text the person
your finisher line, immediately after the kill.)
(d) Witnesses: Usually in Asasssin games, there are a limited amount of witnesses who can be
privy to your act. If more than 4 members of the game report to us that they have just
openly witnessed the “act” of your killing- then we will put you on the most wanted list.
Assassins are supposed to be discrete, brooding and mysterious. Please note that the
witnesses must have seen the ACT of your killing- we will verify this by asking them to
say what your finisher line was.
(e) Exception to Witness Rule: However, if you execute a target while wearing a disguise, then
you are exempt from the 4 witness rule. Disguise means a mask that covers your face.
People may still be able to identify that its you behind the mask (a risk you take on) but we
will pretend as if nobody is the wiser.
(f) Self-Defence: You have to be sneaky about your kills. If your target sees your weapon, or
you are brandishing your “gun”, or he/she notices the “poison”, and comes to the
conclusion that you are his/her assassin, then your target may kill you. However, if you
randomly kill someone and pretend to claim pre-emptive self-defence later (American
conception of Use of Force), we will put you on the John Wick list. Self-Defence is only
allowed against people who have actively tried to kill you, most usually your assassin. Any
disputes over this will be settled by the admin.
SECTION 4
REPORTING
1. Please remember that Assassin is an entirely trust based game. It is meant to be played to
help morale, get people to know each other, and look ridiculous while going about life in
campus. Since the game is open at all points of time and everywhere in campus, there is no
way for us to monitor the kills. This is why we have reporting. We genuinely trust the
participants to report the fact that they have been killed. Any participant which contests
this unfairly, will simply just be removed from the game.
2. Reporting Kills: Once a kill has occurred, both the assassin and the target must report to the
Administrator (via Reporting channel on the Discord Servers) the following information:
a. Your codename
b. Who you have killed/who just killed you (codenames) and the manner of killing. “I
have killed Agent X by way of poison”. Followed by a cool description, which we
encourage you to exaggerate.
c. The target you have handed over/the next target you have inherited
d. Your finisher line.
4. Double Confirmation: Remember that both parties (assassin and target) must send in a
confirmation of the kill to us at the same time. (“Double confirmation”) If we don’t receive
double confirmation, we will not register it as a kill. This is why we once again stress that
this is a trust-based game, we’re all in it for the fun. I promise. So don’t unnecessarily
dispute the kill with your assassin, just accept fate so the rest of us can have fun.
5. Announcement: Once we receive double confirmation, we will announce the kill (Agent X
has killed Agent Y by way of poison. Agent Y was returning from workout and proceeded
to drink his protein shake, without noticing the poison sticker. The last words Agent Y
heard were “No more leg days, bro.”) Keep an eye out for these announcements.
6. If Players are unsure as to exactly what happened or the result of the attempt they should
email as much detail as possible to the Administrator who will make a ruling on the issue,
although it is preferable that Players resolve issues at the time.
SECTION 6
PLAY AREA
1. Barring the places specifically listed below, all areas are permissible play areas inside
campus. You can write to the Administrators requesting to be exempt from play for a
duration of 2 hours, once throughout the game.
2. The following shall be considered safe zones, and no assassin business shall be conducted
on these grounds:
• Classrooms while classes are going on;
• Classrooms/conference rooms/halls where a particular event is going on
(Institutional embarrassment rule: faculty, students and the college shouldn’t be
embarrassed because you chose a particular moment to stab someone with a sticky
while they are speaking on stage)
• Washrooms everywhere, including the hostel;
3. Limited behaviour in the library: Although library is not off-limits to conducting kills, you
must perform them with no disruption whatsoever. Each kill in the library has to be
confirmed with the Administrator specifically, who will rule on whether it was appropriate
or not. If you can melee someone in the library silently, with no disruption, that would
constitute a valid kill. However using any weapon that creates noise, or disturbs other
people will immediately get you John Wicked. (See Section below)
SECTION 5
LAW ENFORCEMENT
2. Everyone who has been assassinated may choose to continue playing as a member of the
Suicide Squad. This means that they can continue to target and kill people who have been
put on the John Wick list. Members of the Suicide Squad can also be killed, but only in
self-defence. However, assassinated members may not continue to play in any capacity,
reveal information to others to give them any sort of advantage. You continue to play only
to compete for the Best Suicide Squad officer.
3. There is no exhaustive list of what counts as transgressions, so always check with us (private
message us on the app). Random killing of people, killing an illegal target, disputing a kill
unnecessarily, all counts as transgressions.
4. We can only decide on these penalties if someone reports to us that a rule has been broken.
So familiarize yourself with a rule, and private message us on the Discord server to report
a possible rule-break.
5. Any decision of the Administrator is final. We may or may not give you a hearing. What
will you do, go to the High Court? There is no natural justice in the assassin world.
1. The Lit-Ent Club, the SAC or the Administrators may continue to introduce new rules
throughout the game, or modify a rule later based on circumstances.
We like to repeat this as often as we can: this is a trust-based game. There is indeed honour among
thieves, and even the world of assassins are not free from rules. The honour code implies that you
will not unnecessarily dispute a fair kill, you will abide by the rules respectfully, and not fight with
the Administrator.
1. This is very important and all Players must be familiar with this. By playing our games,
you are accepting this Code of Conduct. Breaches will be taken very seriously by the
Administrator and the SAC and potentially lead to trouble with authorities including those
at University or even the Police. The SAC reserves the right to ban members from taking
part in our games if they repeatedly breach this Code of Conduct.
2. Players are responsible for their own actions and must exercise common sense at all times,
avoid inconveniencing non-Players especially university staff.
3. If you feel another Player is acting unreasonably or not in accordance with this or any other
section of the rules contact the Administrator or a member of the Lit-Ent Club.
4. This game is non-violent. There is no excuse for strength to be used on another Player. Do
not indulge in any action that could lead to injuries for yourself or any other Player, or
damage to private or university property, such as trying to force open a shut door.
5. Be aware that not everyone is aware of the game.
6. Do not indulge in any activity that will frighten members of the public, do not use weapons
that could be mistaken for real weapons, do not dress up in an intimidating fashion.
7. You are not allowed to impersonate non-university authorities such as the Police. No one
is allowed to impersonate the Administrator, any messages from the Administrator should
be sent through the official forum on Discord, and any suspicious messages should be
reported to the designated account.
8. Fire alarms, security alerts, and medical situations may be neither manufactured nor used
for game purposes.
9. Do not undertake in any action that is either illegal, or do anything that could be construed
to be illegal.
10. Dead Players are not to become involved in the game by disseminating information they
acquired through the game to other Players still involved with the game.
11. Above all, remember this is just a game to be played for fun. Players who act in a manner
that has a detrimental affect on the enjoyment of others may be reprimanded or removed
from the game by the Administrator.
Post-Its of Death Write a big ‘X’ across a post it, and slap it on
your target’s back or front (strictly above
waist). The Post-It must stick at least for a few
seconds, you shouldn’t just touch it.
Wooden/Plastic Spoons Touch your target’s body with a wooden or a
plastic spoon. Strictly no metal spoons or mess
spoons. Wednesday Ice cream spoons do not
count.
Clips Clip your target’s T-shirt with a reasonably
sized clip (like the one used to hang clothes) or
hair clips.
POISON
BOMBS
You can only use these weapons once you tell the Administrator that you have completed
the necessary amount of kills, and we give you confirmation.
Water Pistol à Only available after 3 Kills.
à Once you have completed 3 kills, ask a Lit-Ent member for a water pistol.
You may either use your own water pistol (by showing it to us and gaining
approval), or use the water pistol available with the Lit-Ent Club.
à Water Pistols must be used carefully. If you splash anyone who isn’t a valid
target or playing the game, your weapon will be confiscated and you will be put
on the JW List.
à The stream of water CANNOT hit the target’s face. This is rude, and we will
hate you. The stream of water must hit the target squarely, and not just a random
drop of water.
à If someone kills you, you have to give up your water gun to that person.
Smartphone à Only available after 6 Kills
Guns
à Essentially, there are various apps that imitate the sound of a gunshot. You
must download these Apps (confirm with us which app you can use)
For Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thebasicapp.easygunsounds
à Hold your smartphone like a gun, you're your finisher line and fire three
times in the direction of the target from a distance of not more than 3 meters.
(Irrespective of the gun you choose and its range, we are not ballistics experts).
à The gunshot must be heard clearly.
à It must be a clean shot, don’t kill other people.
