Position Paper

Country : The Italian Republic

Committee : Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC)

Topic : International Response On The status Of Jerusalem

The Italian Republic to International Conference on The Question for The Status of
Palestinian 1974. The countries pointed out on the status and future fate of the palestinian
people, then general assembly adopted the resolution on 22 November 1974 to emphasize the
rights of Palestinian people including the right to self-determination without external
interference, the right to national independence and sovereignnty, and the right to return their
home for refugees as stated by 194(III) resolution in 1948.The status of Jerusalem could not
get intervension by another hand or another state.

Jerusalem is a holy city, unique in the world. It is future must be defined in the
context of the peace process based on two states, Israel and Palestine. We disagree with the
US decision to move it is embassy to Jerusalem and recognize Jerusalem as the Israel capital
before a final status agreement. We believe it is unhelpful in terms of prospects for peace in
the region. Italy’s position on Jerusalem remains anchored to that of Europe and to the
international consensus gathered within the United Nation. Until this occurs, Italy will
continue to abide by the relevant UN resolutions and maintain it is Embassy to the State of
Israel in Tel Aviv.
A solution for Jerusalem as the future capital of two States is to be sought in
negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians within the peace process based on the two-
State solution, taking into account the legitimate expectations of both sides.

We are concerned about the repercussions that the announcement of the United
States’ new approach can have on the ground. We call on the sense of responsibility of all the
players in Palestine and in the region to avoid accidents and acts of violence that would
benefit no one.

A chorus of international leaders criticized the Trump administration’s decision on

Wednesday to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, calling it a dangerous
disruption that contravenes United Nations resolutions and could inflame one of the world’s
thorniest conflicts.
