KIKO: At least 19 children are among the dozens killed in this month’s
violent crackdown on civilian protesters in Sudan’s capital, the U.N.
said, in acts of violence condemned by rights groups as 'barbaric".
Meanwhile, the military and opposition groups agreed to restart
talks, as strikes were called off.
Despite a telecommunications blackout in much of the country,
there have been reports of excessive violence against protesters at the
hands of security forces, including the detention and sexual abuse of
children.
Unicef’s executive director Henrietta Fore said in a statement she
was “gravely concerned” at the impact of the ongoing violence on the
Sudanese children.
She said since June 3 at least 19 children had been reportedly
killed and another 49 injured, with many more still in danger amidst the
violent clashes.

recruited to join the fighting and sexually abused.

ASHLEY: No money for ransom: Abu Sayyaf bandits release 9 captives in
sulu. Here’s our national news, Hasher Bula
HASHER: Suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits released nine captives known
to belong to the Badjao tribe (sea gypsies) Friday evening, local
authorities in Talipao, Sulu confirmed on Saturday.
In a phone interview, Talipao police chief Police Maj. Napoleon
Lango said their personnel were on foot patrol along Kahawa village
when they spotted a group of nine individuals walking on the same
road.
The group approached the officers and identified themselves as
Badjaos allegedly abducted by suspected Abu Sayyaf members off
Sabah, Malaysia last June 18.
The victims said they were fishing off Lahad Datu in Malaysia
when they were snatched by armed men on board two motorized
pump boats.
Lango said the abductors released them as they do not have
money to pay ransom.
He added that the victims were not hurt and are in good health.
They were turned over to the Sulu Provincial Police Office for
medical check-up and debriefing.

ASHLEY: ILIGAN CITY, Philippines — Police arrested on Monday a
person who had a warrant of arrest for killing a public school teacher
here.
Police Major Allan Abalde, chief of Iligan City Police Station 5, said
Albert Dara Bansalao, a resident of Purok Matinabangon in Barangay
Ubaldo Laya here was arrested in Marawi City, based on the warrant of
arrest issued by Judge Ali Balindong of Lanao del Norte’s 12th Judicial
Region Branch 1.
Bansalao was accused of killing Cheryl Dologuin Navarro, an
elementary school teacher in Bacuitana Elementary School in Barangay
Hindang here, on January 24.
Bansalao reportedly stabbed Navarro several times while she was
in class and fled on a motorcycle.
Navarro’s mother said in an earlier interview that Bansalao had
been pursuing her daughter who broke up with him when she learned
he was married.
She was killed inside her classroom infront of her elementary
students. Most of the students were traumatized after the incident
happened.
The suspect, who is facing a murder case, is now at the custody of
Iligan police.

The Beermen collide with the win-less Purefoods Hotdogs at 1:30
p.m. following the 12 noon encounter between the Alaska Milkmen and
the Ginebra San Miguel Kings.

Both San Miguel and Alaska need only to beat their rivals once to

Foundation which is chaired by former PBA hotshot Atoy Co.
UNTV president and CEO Dr. Daniel Razon said the combined
prizes of P2 million will go to the PBA Legends Foundation which is
helping former pro players who are either sick or are in need of
financial help for the education of their children.
Out to lead San Miguel is Allan Caidic who erupted for 32 points
on an impressive 9-of-13 shooting from the three-point zone on
Father’s Day last Sunday where they demolished the Gin Kings, 135-
