BRIEF PROFILE OF DAPA

LOCATION AND BASIC PROFILES


Dapa is composed of island and islets. It is one of the nine (9) towns of Siargao and Bucas
Grande Islands and lies on the northeastern tip of Mindanao. It is 36 nautical miles away from
Surigao del Norte , and can be reached three hours by motor and one and a half hours by modern
fast ferries. The political and business activities of Siargao Island are principally found in the
municipality of Dapa, being the main point of e of entry from Surigao City and the Inland roads
from other municipalities. All national and provincial offices are situated in dapa poblacion.
The town of Dapa is composed of Twenty Nine (29) barangays and thirty six (36) sitios. It
has a total ara of 9, 808 hectares and population of 25,000.
PHYSICAL RESOURCES TOPOGRAPHY
The area is mostly 0 to 0.8% slope or flat nearly level to gently sloping or undulating at the
portion of Poblacion proper. The slope 8 to 18% considered as moderately sloping to rolling can
be found only at the interior portion of Dapa, at some parts of Baranagy Sta. Fe and Osmeña, it is
considered as protected areas under Siargao Island Protected Landscape and Seascape (SIPLAS).
CLIMATE
No dry season with a very pronounced maximum rainfall from November to January. The
type of climate is characterized by 3 prevailing winds. The Northern or commonly known as
Northeastern Monsoon which prevails during the month of November to February. The Southeast
Monsoon which prevails during the months of July, August, and September; the trade wind, which
is prevailing, wind over the tropics.

Rural Road: 138, 818 kms.

LAND TRANSPORTATION
Tricycles provide transportation to commuters within the Poblacion and adjacent barangay.
Passenger jeepneys ply to specifically assigned routes linking to various barangays and
neighboring municipalities. Motor boats are used for island barangays. There are four inter-island
vessels travelling between Dapa to Surigao and vice versa. At least four trips daily are available
using fast craft vessels.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

INDUSTRY
Trade and Tourism is blooming in the Municipality of Dapa. There are 150 commercia
land four (4) industrial establishments currently operating in the area. There are five (5) banks
operating and extending savings, and loan financing assistance and 21 registered cooperatives
offering same services.

AGRICULTURE
Basically, Dapa, is an agricultural municipality. It comprises 65% of total municipal land.
The main crop is coconut and secondary products include rice, corn, and root crops. Livestock and
poultry production comprise chicken, swine, cattle, goats and carabaos. There are needs and
provide financial and technical assistance.

FISHERIES
The area has round 12,000 miles of excellent fishing round. Local aquamarine traders are
contributing to the income of the Local Government Unit, to the neighboring municipalities as in
the country, with their continuous trading to export quality products such a lobster, squids and
more.
Average fish production is approximately 507 metric tons per year of high value fish and other
aquatic products. There are 177 motorized and 202 non-motorized pump boats. Two (2) Fisherman
Cooperatives caters to their needs and provide financial technical assistance.

SCENIC TOURIST SPOTS


Dapa offers beautiful seas, beaches, spring caves, and other unique things and places of
historical, cultural, aesthetic and economic values. The beaches of Barangay Union, Dagohoy and
Corregidor are among the most exquisite beaches found in the municipality. Both have white sand
shorelines with the presence of fresh air and clean surroundings that charmingly faces the Pacific
Ocean.
This entrance of the channel leading towards Dapa from Surigao City and elsewhere is
characterized by sparkling white sand, shaded trees with cool, tranquil atmosphere. Another
attractive beach is “Island Beach” in Pansukian. It is called the “floating islet” as it remains sen
wether high or low tide.
An extra artistic scenery is the almost perfect cone mountains of Alimbungog in Barangay
Consolacion and San Ramon in the Poblacion, overlooking the island. Other attraction is the
Katikipan Beach Resort and mini-spring in Barangay Consolacion, Bito or river that is source of
water found in Barangay 12, Poblacion and Cambas-ac, and mini-water falls in Barangays
Bagakay and Sta. Felomina,.
