POWER SUPPLY UNIT

What is a Power Supply Unit (PSU)?

A Power Supply Unit is a piece of hardware that is used to convert the

power provided from the outlet into usable power for the many parts
inside the computer case. In short, it converts AC voltage to DC voltage.
The AT power supply is used by older computers. The current
computers use ATX power supply. ATX can provide 300 or more watts
while the AT power supply can only provide 250 or less watts. The AT
use two separate six-pins while the ATX use a single 20 or 24-pins. The
AT power switch is a physical button while the ATX use a “soft button”
controlled by the motherboard.

What are the integrated parts of a PSU?

There are many parts inside the PSU. The first one is the Transformer, a
static device used to step up or step down the AC voltage. The next part
is the Rectifier a device used to change the AC power into pulsating DC.
There is also the Filter that helps keep the ripple component from
appearing in the output. The last is the Regulator, maintains the output
of the PSU at a constant level.

What are some manufacturers of PSU?
