SAMPLE QUESTIONS – TCS iON IntelliGem Communication Skills: Grade 9

PSG1. Listen to this interview with teenager Arha answer the questions that follow:

Q: It is admirable to see how socially aware you are at such a young age. Could you tell us
how you started on this journey?
Arha: I would call it a coincidence, actually. We were on our way back home from school
one day, when we saw three children begging on the street near our housing colony. They
looked like they were of our age but were scrawny and seemed emaciated. The stark
difference in our smart outfits and their rags was unsettling.

Q: Did you manage to find others who empathised?

Arha: Well, the realization that the children we saw roaming on the streets were only a small
percentage of the actual total, hit us hard. As teenagers, sometimes we take our privileges for
granted and squander away so many resources. But we are given exposure to several social
reform activities at school. So, when we discussed the issue, our friends wanted to be a part
of the solution.

Q: What is it that you wish to accomplish for these children?

Arha: They are children too with a right to education and a jovial childhood. We want to create
a trust that will organise fund raising activities to ensure education and other necessary
essentials for these children.

Q: That’s such a benevolent thought. What projects do you have in mind as of now?
Arha: Along with a few friends, we decided to organise, a walkathon for the education of
children from underprivileged upbringings. We chose to conduct a walkathon as such activities
are in vogue now and many have pledged their support and backing.

Q: That’s wonderful! I wish your venture all the success in the world. One last question - have you
made friends with any of these children?
Arha: We spoke to a few kids from the neighbouring slums. Most of them dream of attending
school and getting good jobs. It is depressing that they miss out on so many things in their
lives because of their financial condition. We hope to sponsor the education of at least 10 kids
through this event.
