12 MUST DO
THINGS IN SINGAPORE
Go ethnic
While Singapore is known as a metropolitan city,
diversity is what makes it unique. Check-out
Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam the
Malay enclave for the distinct flavors of each ethic
community. (Stop 2, 5 and 10 on Red Line).
Temple visiting
Places of worship are abundant and often near to
each other. The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in
Chinatown is just a block away from Sri Mariamman
Temple — the oldest Hindu temple.
(Stop 5 on Brown Line or Stop 10 on Red Line)

SHOPPING
IN SINGAPORE
Shopping in Singapore is an experience like no other. One of the most vibrant
shopping hubs in Asia, Singapore is the retail heaven for locals and visitors alike.
Here is our editors’ list of recommended shopping locations.
7 Presenting Singapore
CITY IN
THE GARDENS
Ever wondered why Singapore is called the Garden City? This city-state plays home
to many wildlife species and is zealous in creating more gardens, parks and green
spaces. Get a taste of nature at these hotspots:
Pulau Ubin
Located in the northeast of Singapore, Pulau Ubin is
blessed with an abundance of flora and fauna. Home to
a significant number of visiting and resident birds, the
island is a must-go for avid bird watchers. Don’t forget
to bring your binoculars!
Southern Ridges
This 10km stretch of connecting trails lets you walk
among the top of the trees to observe a wide variety of
flora and fauna in their natural habitat. You can also get
a panoramic view of the city, harbour and the Southern
Islands. Best time to visit is early in the morning!
Presenting Singapore 8
WINE, DINE,
SWING AND PARTY
Singapore has a plethora of restaurants and drinking holes. Check out our
recommended partying and dining spots. Remember, you need not get drunk
to enjoy the beat!
Ce La Vi
Voted by the New York Times as one of the top 10
global hotspots, Ce Le Vi sits on the top floor of Marina
Bay Sands Sky Park. Enjoy the view while sipping
cocktails and swaying to the beat of live music acts and
DJ spins. (Stop 3 on Yellow Line or 15 on Red Line)
Clarke Quay
A delightful mix of modernity and chic, Clarke Quay is
one of the city’s trendiest nightspots that awaken at
sunset! Five blocks of refurbished warehouses play
home to a variety of restaurants, bars and pubs.
(Stop 6 on Yellow Line or stop 13 on Brown Line)
Lau Pa Sat
An architectural gem, this old market has been well
preserved over the years. It is now a hawker centre
offering the best of local cuisine at affordable rates.
This is easily Singapore’s loveliest food court.
(Stop 4 on Brown Line)
9 Presenting Singapore
LOCAL
FAVOURITE BITES
Eating is a favourite Singaporean past time. We even greet each other by asking
“Have you eaten?” While in Rome, do as the Roman does – so make sure you
savour all the must-try local cuisines laid out below.
Katong Laksa
The chef of “328 Katong Laksa” beat Gordon Ramsay
hands down in a Laksa cook-off contest. Try the award
winning dish (spicy rice noodle in rich savoury curry
broth) to find out why it is a local signature. Make sure
it’s the “328 Katong Laksa” on East Coast Road.
Chilli Crab
(Long Beach, No Signboard or Jumbo) Chilli Crab is a
dish of fresh mud crab stir-fried in sweet and savory
sauce. There are many interpretations of this dish by
various restaurants. With no clear winner, we have
listed 3 top seafood restaurants for Chilli Crabs.
