Question-1:
Propane is burned with excess air to ensure complete combustion. If 55 kg of CO2 and 15 kg
of CO are obtained when propane is completely burned with 500 kg air, determine the
following:
(a) The mass of propane burnt (in kilograms)
(b) The percent excess air
(c) The composition of flue gas

Question-2:
A producer gas contains 9.2% CO2, 21.3% CO, 18% H2, 2.5% CH4 , and the rest N2. It is
burned with an excess supply of air. The flue gas analysed 9.05% CO2, 1.34% CO, 9.98% O2
and 79.63% N2. Determine the following:
The percent excess air supplied

Question-3:
A hydrocarbon is burnt with excess air. The Orsat analysis of the flue gas shows 10.81%
CO2, 3.78% O2 and 85.40 N2. Calculate the atomic ratio of C:H in the hydrocarbon and the %
excess air.

Question-4:
A synthesis gas analyzing 6.0% CO2, 0.5% O2, 40.0% CO, 50% H2 and the rest N2 is burned
with 50% excess air. What is the composition of the flue gas?

Question-5:
A gas mixture consisting of 80% ethane and 20% oxygen is burned in an engine with 200%
excess air. 80% of the ethane goes to CO2, 10% to CO and 10% remains unburned. Calculate
the composition of the exhaust gases on
(a) a wet basis

(b) a dry basis
