French verbs (les verbes français)

To conjugate a verb (pour conjuguer un verbe) : http://www.conjugation-fr.com

The verb ending will change according to the subject pronoun. The French verbs are classified among three
groups of verbs whose conjugation pattern is “predictable”.

• The first group = French verbs ending in “ER”

• The second group = French verbs ending in “IR”
• The third group = French verbs ending in “RE”… and all others
• 2 auxiliaries = « avoir » and « être »
First group
The “ER” group only has one irregular verb : a verb that ends in “er” BUT that doesn’t follow the same
conjugation pattern as “parler”. This is the verb « aller » (to go).

Verbs with « yer » :

payer (to pay) appuyer (to press) broyer (to crush) envoyer (to send) rayer (to scratch)
Je paie / paye appuie broie envoie raie / raye
Tu paies / payes appuies broies envoies raies / rayes
Il / Elle paie / paye appuie broie envoie raie / raye
Nous payons appuyons broyons envoyons rayons
Vous payez appuyez broyez envoyez rayez
Ils / Elles paient / payent appuient broient envoient raient / rayent

Second group
Verbs from second group allways finish with « ir ». If you can say « issant » for present participe, it is a verb
from second group.
