SUU student organizes fundraiser for primary school in Fiji

Cedar City, Utah, April 14th, 2018 -- SUU student Kyle Hannemann organized a fundraiser which took
place during the spring game of the SUU football team. Kyle, who is also a member of the football
team, with the help of a few volunteers cooked food for all players, coaches, and staff immediately
following the game. $800 dollars was raised as a result which will be donated to St. Peter Chanel
Primary school located in Korolevu, Fiji.

Hannemann learned of St. Peter Chanel Primary School through his professor Toa Tawa who visits
there frequently. Tawa expressed to Hannemann the need the school had for improved facilities and
materials. Hannemann decided he could help this school as part of his EDGE project at SUU, which is a
personalized integrative learning experience offered by the university.

Throughout the span of a few months Hannemann planed and organized his fundraiser which involved
serving food for the entire SUU football team, coaches and staff following the teams spring football
game. The fundraiser was successful and Hannemann was able to raise $800 dollars which converted
to about $1600 in Fiji. A few months following the fundraiser the money was delivered to St. Peter
Chanel Primary school by Professor Tawa. The school was then able to purchase many new books for
their students.

When asked about his experience with the fundraiser Hannemann said, “I am really thankful that I
was able to help those students in Fiji. I have always wanted to find ways to help others in need but it
is difficult to actually act upon it when there are countless other things going on every day. Thanks to
the EDGE program at SUU I got the extra push I needed to actually put the actions into place to help
those students receive a better education.” He also said, “Even though I was able to help St. Peter
Chanel school in a small way they are still in need of many basic items. Please contact me though my
phone number or email listed if you are interested in helping these students, thank you.”
