Syllabus for ME 190-01: Introduction to Manufacturing Processes

Fall 2015
Instructor: Ala Qattawi

Designation: ME 190-01: Special Topics: Introduction to Manufacturing Processes

Course Description: This course is a quantitative and qualitative study for the main
manufacturing processes. It will illustrate how a design is turned into a
product. It will offer a detailed understanding of manufacturing processes
used in industry such as casting, molding, forming, cutting, and welding and
will relate the design requirements of a part to the possible manufacturing
processes. The course also includes quality assurance of manufactured parts
by inspection and testing. It will also discuss how the material properties of a
product control the spectrum of manufacturing processes that can be utilized
and will highlight major design guidelines for each manufacturing process to
be successful. Students of all engineering disciplines are encouraged to take
this class specially, the mechanical engineering students in addition to
students who intent to take the ME 170 Capstone Design course in future.
