Water Boiler (Ref. Figure 1), part numbers 400-001-103, -105, -109, and -111 are of modular design, utilizing cast aluminum-magnesium-titanium construction and reliability. The front-panel assembly serves as a main frame for the power contro! module and four-gallon capacity water tank. B. Six 1000-watt, immersion-type heater assemblies, mounted in the water tank, heat the water to 195° + 3° Fin 15 minutes. A WATER HOT indicator will iluminate when this temperature is reached and stabilized. The hot water is dispensed through two faucets mounted on the front panel. C. All plumbing and fittings are stainless steel except the faucets and overpressure rellet valve, which are tin nickel-plated brass. D. A water-temperature thermometer is mounted on the front panel of part numbers 400-001-105 and 400-001-111. Water Boller Figure 1 Page 1 38-11-19 sus 100 AIRCRAFT PRODUCTS DIVISION FL AEROSPACE CORPORATION COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL, MODEL NO. 400-0001 2. Operation ‘A. Install the Water Boiler (Ref. Figure 106) in the aircraft galley or in an equivalent bench mock-up. NOTE: Input water temperature shall be 72" + 3° F at an operating pressure of 30 psig. B. Apply input power of 3 phase, 115 VAC, 400 Hz fo connector P1. With ON/OFF switch S2 in the “ON position, 115 VAC, 400 Hz will be applied to the primary winding of transformer T1 ‘The stepped-down voltage from the transformer secondary winding is rectified by diodes CR1 through CR4, resulting in a 28-VDC power source for the logic circuits, relays K1 and K2 and the indicator lights. When the input water fils the tank and makes contact with the probe of water-level sensor WP1, the NO WATER indicator will go out and relays K1 and K2 will be energized and apply 115 VAC, 400 Hz through terminal block TB3 to the six heater assemblies. ‘The heater assemblies will remain on until the water temperature reaches a set point of 195° + 3° F determined by the control of the logic circuits by thermistor RT! and the WATER HOT indicator will iluminate. If the temperature exceeds 230° + 5° F, the over-temperature thermostat will open, de-energizing relays K1 and K2 and turn off the heater assemblies. C. if thermistor RT1 opens or shorts, the thermistor acts as a fail safe circuit by turning off the heater assemblies. Also, if the water in the tank is frozen, the heater assemblies will remain off D. A drain-vaive control is mounted on the front panel to facilitate complete drainage of the water tank. The unit is equipped with two over-pressure rellef valves, set to relieve if water pressure exceeds 80 psi. A water-inlet check valve allows water to flow in the direction of arrow. Rated flow is GPM 3.5 opening at a pressure of 5 psi In accordance with military spectfications MS24423 and MS24593. 3. Leading Particulars: A.__Refer to Figure 2 for leading particulars. Connect a water source and a drain to the Water Boiler and apply 9 phase, 115 VAC, 400 Hz electrical power as shown In Figure 101 B. Press ON/OFF switch to the *ON" position, ©, The NO WATER indicator shall illuminate until the water level in tank reaches the water level sensor, at that time the NO WATER indicator will go out and the tank heater assemblies will be energized. D. With tank full and the inlet water at a temperature of 72° F and operating pressure of 30 psig, the Water Boiler shall pre-heat to a temperature of 195° + 3° F within 15 minutes and the WATER HOT indicator will illuminate. E. With water in the tank stabilized at 195° + 3° F, the unit will deliver 1.8 gallons of water from both faucets in one minute with a minimum of 190° F water temperature. F. Following an initial draw of 1.5 gallons at 195° F in one minute, the recovery time to replenish and heat the 1.5 gallons to 195° F shall not exceed 4 minutes and 30 seconds. i : pee t peng a soonz (82 + ae cues neyrmny ong itr] ! ran $83 nearer ance i ' waren a J ' Testing Set-Up Figure 101 Page 101 38-11-19 aus 0100 AIRCRAFT PRODUCTS DIVISION FL AEROSPACE CORPORATION COMPONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL, MODEL NO. 400-0001 1s a i S1-1162-1 NOTE: The following test procedures are to be performed using card extension adaptor. part number 60-2344-1. MODEL NO. 400-0001 4 Hoh Pressure Leak Test ‘A. Apply 24 psig water pressure and fill the tank B. Increase water pressure to 80 psig and allow the Water Boiler to remain pressurized for three minutes. After this time limit, remove the Water Boller from the test rack and check for evidence of leaking ©. If leaks occur, replace tank assembly part number 400-0660-5. 6. i 12116221 NOTE: Adjustments to the cicult board should only be made if components have been replaced or if thermistor replacement fails to accomplish the desired water temperature. ‘A. Anchor the Water Boiler securely on a work bench. The input power source shall be 3 phase, 115 VAC, 400 Hz with an AC voltmeter and an AC ammeter installed in each phase. 8. _ Install a water supply equipped with a regulator and gauge. The water supply shall be regulated to 24 psi at a flow rate of 17 ounces per minute. ©. Remove the cover assembly from the power control module. Remove printed circuit board assembly, part number 61-1162-1, plug card extension adaptor, part number 60- 2344-1, Into the connector and insert printed circuit board assembly into other end of adaptor. D. Replace thermistor leads (TB2-13 and 182-16) with a calibrated 10 K Ohm potentiometer Bourns part number 3701S-1-103, or equivalent. CAUTION DURING REMAINING STEPS, CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN NOT TO ALLOW THE HEATER TO REMAIN ON BECAUSE THE TEMPERATURE IN THE TANK WILL BECOME TOO HIGH. E. Adjust the reference potentiometer to 10 K Ohm. F. Apply 118 VAC, 400 Hz power to phase *A* only and observe ammeter. If test setup prevents connection of Phase “A* only, disconnect two (2) heaters to accomplish this test Current of approximately 8 amperes indicates the Water Boiler is energized and heater circuit Is on Slowly reduce the reference potentiometer to 8 K Ohm. The heater should turn off between 8 K Ohm and 7.1 K Ohm. If not, adjust the R38 potentiometer on circuit board part number 61-1162-1 to turn the heater off within this range. Page 114 38-11-19 suo 0100 AIRCRAFT PRODUCTS DIVISION FL AEROSPACE CORPORATION COMONENT MAINTENANCE MANUAL MODEL NO. 400-0001 H. Increasing the resistance of the reference potentiometer back to 10 K Ohm should turn the heater back on. Turn 115 VAC power off 1. Reinstall thermistor leads and printed circuit board assembly. 6. Thermistor Test (P/N 400-0665-1) ‘A. Immerse probe end of the thermistor in ice water. The resistance shall be between 315.9K ohm and 386.1 K ohm. B. _Heatthe probe to 196" F. The resistance shall be between 6.935 K chm and 7.665 K ohm. C. _Athermistor of known accuracy can be used as a standard to compare with the thermistor under test.
