Proposal for the Dairy Development Initiative as

an alternate livelihood
• Area – Mandla District (M.P.)
• Under the Command area of River Narmada
• Majority of the population belongs to “Gond”, a S.T. community.
• Primarily Depends on Agriculture
• Largely marginal farmers - land holding not more than 1 acre
• Low income levels
• Employment – Less employment opportunities, mostly unskilled
labor
• Average Income – 20,000 pa
Objectives

• To improve social, nutritional and economic status of


communities of comparatively more disadvantaged areas
• To develop Dairy as an alternate livelihood option.
• To help the farmers in procurement, Processing and
Marketing of milk in a cost effective manner
• To Ensure remunerative prices to milk producers
Target Group

• Targeted beneficiaries – 500 households


• Outreach – 12 villages of Mandla district
Activities undertaken
• Formation of farmers group
• Sourcing funds
• Training & Skill development
• Financial Assistance to purchase cattle
• Establishment of BMC
• Linkages to State Dairy cooperative
• Provide Veterinary services, feed and fodder.
