Problem 1
List some of the common measures of effectiveness for assessing community objectives of
transportation projects.

Problem 2
It is proposed to widen existing Islamabad Expressway (Urban Arterial) from four to eight lane
divided highway in order to reduce congestion (Karaal (Airport) Chowk to GT Road). List
appropriate performance measures from the point of view of
(a) The owner (local highway agency)
(b) Facility users
(c) Non-users who are affected by the system.

Problem 3
Due to increased travel needs and congestion issues local highway authorities in Rawalpindi/
Islamabad area have decided to construct Rawalpindi bypass/ Margalla Avenue. You are asked
to evaluate the proposed road projects on behalf of the city. What types of performance measures
would you select for your project?

Problem 4
Due to increased travel demand and severe congestion RDA and CDA have decided to construct
Rawalpindi bypass. You are asked to carry out detailed feasibility of proposed road project on
behalf of the city. You are required to carry out detailed estimation of present (2015) and future
(2035) year vehicle demand for feasible alternative of your road project. Your demand
estimation may include details as follows:
a. Prepare a detailed map of your project area (depending upon your group), to indicate the
spatial limits/ scope of your project.
b. Indicate best two feasible options for your project (possible corridor in order of priority).
c. Indicate all routes/ population centers from where possibly reasonable number of trips
shall be generated and shall use the proposed transportation intervention (Rawalpindi
bypass).
d. Prepare a detailed traffic data collection plan for your proposed options.
