The Seller shall incorporate these requirements in theit procedures. 1.2 Cleaning of repaired areas shall be performed in accordance with ASME Sec. VIII, Div. 1. 2.0 REPAIRS TO BASE METAL SURFACE NONCONFORMITIES 21 For Repairs Not Requiring Welding A. Sutface defects shall be removed by grinding only. Abrasive-type wheels and stones are not allowed on vacuum base metal surfaces. B. Ground surface repairs shall be visually inspected to verify thatthe nonconformity has ‘been removed or the indication reduced to an acceptable limit. C. ‘The reduced material thickness shall be checked by a depth micrometer or an ultrasonic thickness gauge. 22 For Repairs Requiring Welding A. Remove the defect by grinding or by chipping to an acceptable level, Abrasive-type ‘wheels and stones are not allowed on vactuum welds, B. Visually inspect and PT/MT the area prepared for welding, C. Weld defects shall be removed by grinding or sanding only. Abrasive-type wheels and stones are not allowed on the interior o the exterior of vacuum welds B. Visually inspect the area prepared for welding to ensure that the defect has been removed or the indication reduced to an acceptable limit. ©, The reduced material thickness shall be checked by a depth micrometer or an ultrasonic thickness gauge. For Repairs Requiring Welding ‘A. Remove the defect by grinding (as specified in A. above) or by chipping and grinding (as specified in A. above) to an acceptable level B, Visually and PT/MT inspect the area, C. Re-weld in accordance with an approved WPS and PQR. D. The repaired area may be left in the as-welded condition if it meets the required reinforcement criteria per ASME Sec. VIII Div. 1 or it may be blended by grinding, The repaired area shall blend uniformly into the surrounding surface and shall be visually inspected after welding. For Fillet Weld Repairs Requiring Welding or ry een @Giobal ee Sa 52 33 ‘A. Remove the unacceptable weld metal by an approved method (as specified in A, above). 90% of weld metal should be removed. B. Ifthe full fillet weld is not completely removed, visually inspect the area prepared for welding. CC. Re-weld 3/8” fillet weld in accordance with an approved WPS and PQR. Using 3/32” 7018 low hydrogen welding rods D. Welded repairs shal be visually inspected after welding BASE MATERIAL CLEANUP PROCEDURE SCOPE 5.2.1 This procedure describes the acceptable methods of base metal cleanup (plate, pipe, forgings, et.) 52.2 3.12 This includes the removal of such things as temporary attachments, ‘lamp marks, fit-up weld marks, undereut, gouges, crater eracks and other imperfections. REMOVAL METHODS 53.1 Cleanup of imperfections or items listed in 3.1. are limited to chipping, srinding, and buffing only. Abrasive-type wheels and stones are not allowed on vacuum vessel materials because of the binder material used in the manufacturing of the wheel. The binder is embedded in the metal and will off-gas be causing loss of vacuum over a period of time, 5.2.2 After removal, the affected area shall be repaired by blending or welding. Repair welding can be lettin the as-welded condition, The repaired area shall blend uniformly into the surrounding surface and shall be visually inspected after welding. REFRENCES: ASME See.
