In general, crossbreeding is used to produce

superior fish for grow-out (production fish), while
selection is used to create superior brood fish.
The hybrids that are created in a crossbreeding
program are usually grown and sold as food. A
farmer rarely retains and spawns hybrids to
produce a new generation of production fish.
On the other hand, select brood fish that are
created in a selective breeding program are
created for one purpose-to produce the next
generation of fish for grow-out-and their offspring
can, in turn, be retained and selected to continue
the process.

all-male progeny produced from hybridising common carp X goldfish hybrids

the female freshwater crayfish, Cherax hybridization across families was not successful
rotundus, and the male, C. albidus, offers common carp X goldfish and silver carp X
considerable potential for eliminating the bighead carp or showing male but not female
growth - suppressing uncontrolled sterility, as in the case of common carp X
crucian carp

silver carp X grass carp, crucian carp X
The all-male C. albidus, C. rotundus hybrids common carp with accelerated growth
were found to be sterile and did not produce mud carp X Sinilubeo decorus with resistance
progeny when mated with C. albidus or C. to low temperature
destructor females

grass carp X bighead carp hybrid was reported

to be triploid
hybrids between common carp and crucian carp
are viable
crucian carp X common carp hybrid has
accelerated growth
crucian carp X grass carp hybrid, and reported
on its triploid nature, incorporating two genomes
of the crucian carp parent and one of the grass
carp parent.
