Politics is a multi-faceted dimension in which it affects everything and everyone living in

a certain country. It seems boring but it is one of the most important activity in our lives
because it is ruled by people who can either make the lives of the many better or worse.

In this coming election, there are so many factors that could affect the voting decision of
most of the Filipino voters which will be a determinant to the future administration of the
Philippine government as well as the future of the Filipino people. One of the many factors
is the political stand of the candidates because it will serve as their guide on how to make
decisions. However, the majority of the voting body in the Philippines are uneducated and
not knowledgeable about this matter and where they belong to the political spectrum and
because of this, most of their voting decisions are based on the popularity of the candidate
or how rich they are which is the sad reality and the disadvantage of this situation because
in order to run a democratic country effectively, it needs educated citizens. On the other
hand, the advantage in this situation is that most of the voters composed the majority of
the youth wherein they are already aware and well-informed about the political issues
happening in the Philippines. However, there is still an existing gap in this current
situation, there is a lack of empowerment of the Filipino youth to exercise their rights
through voting in elections because some of the youth are not interested into political
matters and do not want to be involved in such important issues and remain neutral. Thus,
it still remains a big problem in our country.

As a Psychology student as well as an emerging voter, it is important to know, to be aware

and to understand the political stand of each candidates because where they belong to
the political spectrum will reflect their political ideologies and beliefs which are really
important in determining how they will govern the country. With this, it is significant to
know and to care as a Filipino citizen on what is really going on in our country and to take
full advantage in the society that we are living in as well as how government officials
would address certain issues because they are in the position and have the power to
make critical decisions that will also affect the many especially those who are in
marginalized groups wherein their voices are rarely heard because sometimes, the
decision of the political leaders will generate either positive or negative effects not just to
our country but also the lives of the many Filipino citizens that could either make or break
them. That is why, it is really important to understand which position an individual belongs
to the political spectrum because it will serve as a guide on who to vote based on his or
her political stand especially that current issues in the Philippines such as lowering the
age of criminal liability and extrajudicial killings are controversial in the present time. Most
importantly, as a Filipino citizen, it is my responsibility to vote for the right and deserving
political leaders who will be competent and effective in governing our country because
my vote will matter to the lives of the many. My vote will determine their future, may it be
good or bad. Thus, in order to become a good citizen and to have a better country, one
must vote wisely.
