In this modern time, I sometimes forget

and making new memories with them. For me,
the highlight of this activity was the sudden
rainfall. At first, I was disheartened since I did
not bring any extra clothes and I was worried
because I might get sick. But, as I continued
playing, the game was even more fun because
the rain reminds me of my childhood and it made
me realize that I haven’t played in the rain since
I was in first grade. The rain also reminds me of
one of unique characteristics of Filipinos which is
being resilient and the value “Bahala na” wherein
we, Filipinos are determined and ready to face
whatever difficult circumstances we are in while

still doing our best. Aside from that, I find the
activity therapeutic because it was the first time
that I felt liberated from academic requirements
and it was also a way of de-stressing.

We, Filipinos are not only known for our hospitability. Filipinos are also recognized for
being excellent and competent around the world. Our characteristics such as being
hardworking, passionate, and having a strong work ethic have certainly manifested in
everything we do. Filipinos excel in different fields not only for being competent but also
because of the Filipino values that transpired in our work. In this activity, I was inspired
by the talk of Mr. Alexander Dagalea wherein he emphasizes the importance of not giving
up on your dreams, investing in your talent, giving your best to achieve your goals, and
believing in yourself. I have realized that there are some points in my life that I have to go
out in my comfort zone and use my talents in order for me to grow and to have a flourishing
life. Aside from that, he highlights how Filipinos are willing to sacrifice in order to sustain
the needs of their family. On the brighter side, this is what I admire about the Filipino
culture wherein our families are part of our dreams and goals in life, our success is also
their success. Ibang klase talaga ang mga Pinoy!

What makes Filipinos unique is how talented
and creative we are. Through “Pinoy
Concert”, I was able to personally witness the
different kinds of love by singing, dancing,
and reading a personal poem. In the entire
duration, I was so proud of my fellow
Psychology students for sharing and
showcasing their talents. The creativity of
Filipinos was also evident in this activity
because the shared experiences of Filipinos
when it comes to different kinds of love may
it be happy or sad were expressed through
song, dance, and even in poetry. It can be
denied how romantic Filipinos are. Aside
from that, I have realized that because of
many popular foreign songs, I did not really
get to appreciate Bisaya songs and I viewed
it as “cliché” but because of Pinoy Concert,
for the first time I was impressed and I
appreciated the beauty of our local language
as well as our own local artists who
composed those songs. “Matod pa nila,
tangkilikin ang sariling atin.”
This whole journey would not be completed
without celebrating fiesta which is the main
cultural event in the Philippines. The
celebration of fiestas is really important to us
Filipinos, it is not an ordinary event because it
is rooted in the Filipino tradition wherein it
serves as a get together as well as fellowship
with other Filipinos to form bond and create
memories. For me, Pa-fiesta Ni Mayora was a
great opportunity to enjoy with other
Psychology students through eating Pinoy food
and Filipino film. The activity served as a
reminder of our past and it gave me a glimpse
of how the Philippines is rich in cultural
heritage. Overall, these activities (Pinoy
Games, Meeting the Expert, Pinoy Concert,
and Pa-Fiesta Ni Mayora) have greatly
changed my perspective in the Filipino culture.
I am grateful for this course for it made me
realized who am I as a Filipino, appreciate my
own culture, and made me look back to my
origin.
