Lesson Title:
The Political Self and Being Filipino

Activity:
Who is a Filipino?
Cut out pictures or illustrations from magazines and newspapers that show what being
a Filipino is about. Paste them below.
Analysis:
Answer the questions below in relation to what you have posted in the previous activity.

1. How do the pictures remind you of your being a Filipino?

- This photo reminds me of being a Filipino, since Filipinos have a joyful personality, great
faith and devotion to God, love to enjoy fiestas and festivals, love to help people without
expecting anything in return, and are respectful to elders.

2. Are you proud of being a Filipino? Why or why not?

- Yes, I’m very proud that I’m born as a Filipino for the reason that Filipino has a unique
trait from other Asian countries aside from that seeing every Filipino willing to helps one
another is inspiring and makes me proud to be a Filipino. Beyond our resilience, flexibility,
and courage in the face of hardship, Filipinos have demonstrated that we are also the most
caring, selflessly willing, and always ready to serve anybody in need. To summarize, the
Filipino is a survivor. Filipinos also have a positive mindset, such as respect for elders and
hospitality. Everyone knows we are very personable; even if we don't have money, we always
find methods to provide something for people. I.Q.

3. Imagine that you were of a different nationality. What would change in you aside from
your citizenship and origin?
- If I were from different nationality, I would possibly change my perspective about the
people surrounds me like I don’t need to judge them by just the thing I see in them. I should
know the person better than judging them. Also, I would change my beliefs and physical
feature and my way of thinking.

4. How extensive are the effects of being Filipino in your selfhood?

- Significantly important. Being raised in the Philippines and having lived my whole life
here has, of course, had a significant impact on my self-concept. A human being's
personality/selfhood is impacted by heredity and "environment" from a scientific standpoint.
Every individual, as you are aware, is unique, yet there are parts of an individual's self that
are impacted by the environment (e.g. country, locality, family, affinities, etc.). I hope my
explanation satisfies your curiosity. Filipino are hospitable and respectful; I adopt it without
practicing or this kind of traits it only came out naturally.
Let’s Do This:

1. Make an acrostic below which will describe you, in relation to your being a Filipino:

F – riendly
I - ntegrity
L – ively
I - maginative
P – riceless
I – ntelligent
N – aughty
O – bservant
2. Discuss how being a Filipino affects your “self.” How can becoming a better Filipino influence your
duty to becoming a better version of yourself?

- Being a Filipino influence how I act; I must be careful in everything I do, say, and even wear so
that I am not criticized by the eyes that surround me. Becoming a better Filipino and becoming
a better version of myself are intrinsically tied. With a few exceptions, people all across the
country can produce good work when they want to better themselves. It fosters an optimistic
attitude on life, which eventually gives the community and much of the country hope. The
problem is, if a person consciously strives to act morally, he or she progressively becomes a
decent person and a better ambassador of his or her nation, in our instance, a good Filipino.
