 So… what IS Battle of the Books?
The Battle of the Books is a competition during
which students read books from a list of 20 books.
These books include Bluestem & Monarch nominees
as well as recommendations from Mrs. Martinez at
ACES and Mrs. McHugh at BGS & YGS
Students form teams to compete against each other
answering questions about the books they read!
 When is Battle of the Books?

The battle will BUT you need

take place at to start planning
in the spring,
& reading
usually in
March. NOW!
Who can participate in Battle of the Books?

3rd grade students can form

teams WITHIN your class.
How many students can be on a team?

today and fill out a
Team Intent Form. YOU ARE NOT
A TEAM YET!

all of the books on the list!

passed the AR tests
you will fill out an
Official Application. Mrs. Tudisco will review
your application.
 What are we looking for?

❏ 10 DIFFERENT books have been
read.

 How do you earn points?

You can receive a maximum of 4

points per question.

Does it count if my teacher reads aloud a book from

the Battle of the Books list? What about my mom,
dad, aunt, uncle, neighbor, or dog? Yes! As long as you
take an AR test on it!

Do I have to participate? No, but it is a LOT of fun!

Once you join a team, they are counting on you so make sure
you do your reading!
 Before you ask… 2/2

Can I quit in a few months if I decide I don’t want to

do this anymore? NOOOOO. Your team is counting on you,
so if you sign up you will not be able to drop out of BoB. Your
team needs you… and we believe in you. You can do it!

What kinds of prizes are there? Hmmm… Well, there will

probably be some sort of prize, but that’s not why we do this
so for NOW if you choose to participate, do it because this is
SO MUCH FUN!!!!! Also, let’s talk about the ULTIMATE BATTLE
and trophy… ( ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! )
