Education is the fundamental right of every human being on this planet and yet, a lot of
work needs to be done by the government of Pakistan to improve the educational system.
According to the Pakistan Economic Survey, 2017-2018, the literacy rate for
entire Pakistan, includes ten years old and above is 58 percent1. To improve the literacy
rate, the government should shade a spotlight on improving the syllabus content in
accordance with the international standards. The syllabus content used in schools today
is same as the syllabus content used by students in Pakistan’s initial years of existence. In
text and refences books no modern advancements are included; they remain unchanged
with the changes in the world. This creates a class difference between a student with
Pakistani educational background and one who studied from abroad. Moving on, the
government should introduce a criterion for selection of teachers and lecturers, for
example; the teachers’ must be well qualified in their field of education. Workshops must
be held by well qualified government officials to train teachers to develop a friendly
relation with students to help them understand better. Moreover, the government should
invest in modernization of the educational institutes quality of education provided. In
Pakistan, 89% education expenditure comprises of current expenses such as teachers’
salaries, while only 11% comprises of development expenditure which is not sufficient to
raise quality of education2.The government should use the funds generated to provide
Smart boards in schools to allow the students to visualize the concepts being given to
them. Also, the government should make internet facilities more accessible to students
and promote online education which will open the road of information to the students,
enhancing their thinking skills. To conclude, the focus of government on educational
system is important to allow better generations to emerge and lead this country.
