The Role of the Youth in Establishing Unity in a Diversified

Multicultural Society
Good afternoon, everyone. Let me start my speech with a quote of Benjamin Franklin, “By
failing to prepare then you are preparing to fail.” As most of you know that this speech will be all
about the youth. Well, more on empowering the youth on how they are the only hope for the
future and what not. Let me tell you, to all of you, saying these kinds of things put a lot of
pressure on us, and we, as the youth, needs to overcome this pressure and accomplish this goal
which is uniting a diversified society. But the youth needs help. They can’t do this alone. They
need guidance from elders, parents, and teachers. How you say? Ok, there are 3 things in my list
that should be taught to the youth.

1. By teaching the youth that being different is A-OK.

Ok, this is an obvious choice. Let us teach children that being different are ok. You don’t
need to follow or copy someone else. YOU are YOU. I have a plenty of friends who doesn’t have
the same religion as mine. I have friends who are Born Again, Muslims, and Atheists, and we get
along very well. We don’t criticize each other; instead we accepted each other for what we
believe. Same goes for sexuality. Again, I have plenty of friends who are homosexuals; we don’t
quarrel over why he likes this or why she likes that. Because we know that despite of having
differences we share a common characteristic; we are all human.

2. Teaching the youth open-mindedness.

Picture you and your best friend. You are a Roman Catholic whose family is very strict
about the religion. Your friend is an Atheist. Your family says stay away from your atheist friend.
What will you do?
Open-mindedness is very important to teach to the next generation as the current generation
lacks the ability. Open-mindedness is receptiveness to new ideas. Open-mindedness relates to the
way in which people approach the views and knowledge of others, and "incorporate the beliefs
that others should be free to express their views and that the value of others’ knowledge should
be recognized." Teaching this to children should lessen the quarrels and discrimination our world
is experiencing.

3. Pacification is heaven of Earth.

As Golda Meir said, “You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist.” The result of the two
things I said will bring serenity. With this, we can avoid discrimination and quarrels because
those two things can bring anger and feud to the next generation which can lead to wars which is
not great.
To summarize what I’ve said; peace is awesome.
I would like to quote Rick Riordan. “Young people don't always do what
they're told, but if they can pull it off and do something wonderful,
sometimes they escape punishment.” As a teen, I agree. Teenagers or the
Youth likes to break the rules. Not all of them, but most of them. But you
can’t deny that the youth today is very cunning. They can get away with
everything. Well, sometimes.

This is the 21st century people! Technologies are coming to life; cell phones
are thin as paper, Artificial Intelligence are being built on a computer.
Graphics so real, you can’t tell what’s what. 3D and 4D gaming is playable.
There are different religions, races ideals, sexualities and these lead to
VENDETTAS and DISPUTES. I can see why these kinds of things don’t get
along. If I were to explain to you this speech could go on forever.

In conclusion, the youth is the backbone of a country. To quote José Rizal,

“Ang kabataan ang pagasa ng bayan.” The youth is and will be the future
leaders of this country. For us to be prepared we should listen to advices of
our parents AND our parents, elders, or teachers should teach us the right
things. Now we must live to the expectations of critics, we shall not make the
same mistakes the current generation made, but to correct them. We shall
rise above discrimination; face the problems of our country with brilliancy
and talent not with dull and simple mindedness.

With that note, Mabuhay ang Pilipino, at mabuhay ang kabataan! To the
adults, critics, we, the “youth” will make changes and it’s for the better.
