The city of Salta, in the Argentinian province of Salta, is just over 430 years old (1582).

The population of Salta city is 619.000. It is the eighth largest city in Argentina and the second
most populated city in the northwest of the country. It is famous for its tourist-friendly hotels,
restaurants and local cuisine, museums, colonial architecture and vibrant nightlife. From there
you can get to the Puna, the salt flats, the Yungas, the wine region of Cafayate, rock gorges and
green valleys. The city of Salta is a major center of tourism. The most famous building is the
cathedral on the central square, Plaza 9 de Julio (1882). There is the “Panteón de las Glorias”,
final resting place of General Martín Miguel de Güemes.
