EXPERIENCE OF MY SUMMER INTERNSHIP

Industrial exposure via Fashion Industry Internship & Training (FIIT) teaches
fashion students about the basics of the field. Interns learn how to interact
with customers, manage inventory, operate stores on daily basis and lot more.

As a Masters of Fashion Management (MFM) student of NIFT Shillong, I

completed my internship from Peter England. I will share my experience of my
internship, project I got in my internship, difficulties faced in internship and
learning’s during internship.

As a Masters of Fashion Management (MFM) student, its part of our academic

curriculum to pursue internship in any department of fashion industry- be it
merchandising, buying, retailing, branding or marketing depending upon
choice and interest.

It is compulsory to undergo internship for the specified period, otherwise the

student is not eligible to receive degree from NIFT.

Students of MFM have to pursue two internships.

First, we need to pursue Fashion Industry Internship & Training (FIIT) for eight
weeks after completion of second semester.

Second, Graduation Research Project (GRP) for four months after third
semester.

I pursued my summer internship in Retail Operations from Peter England.

I was given a project and the main objective of the project was to bring back
the stores in growth which were in de-growth compared to last financial year.

Retail operations is all about men management. If all the staffs are managed
well, then they will give you sales and if sales target are met, than the stores
will grow. Visual Merchandising also plays a vital role in growth of a store.

I learned many things like daily sales report (DSR), stock on hand (SOH), rate of
sales (ROS), intern store stock transfer (IST), stock inward, stock outward, point
of sales(POS), inventory management, analysing monthly sales to find out
which is the bestselling product.

It is very important for a student to undergo an internship as the experience

and exposure one gains from such an industrial exposure is fruitful in the long
run. The student would become more responsible, a team player, problem
solver, patient, analytical and adaptable to work under pressure.
