Objective of the OJT

The objective of this OJT training was to provide the students of B.Voc. 3 nd semester of

GPGC Bilaspur, a platform to learn basic skills required for the job role of Department Manager

the field of retail management. Also to make them aware with the aptitude, awareness,

competence in the real working place.

INTRODUCTION

The introduction of this report is based on the experience gained in previous two OJT’s. This

time our B.VOC batch has been at Chandigarh, the city beautiful for our third OJT. The term on-

the job training can be defined as, “the process of helping the people to learn in an organized or

planned way at the real working place in real time.” It means OJT is a platform that gives

trainees an opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained from lessons in the classroom.

Also OJT helps the students to achieve relevant knowledge and necessary skills through the

actual experience in working in the field of their profession1 (2nd OJT).

In any organization the Administration department and its role is very important because all the

responsibilities of maintaining and taking care of the organization especially to maintain the

working environment comes under administrative department. In order to perform these kinds of

duties certain specific procedures and systems need to be followed. All these procedures and

systems are helpful in dealing with critical situations and to bring any changes requires approval

from the top management. So keeping this in mind during this OJT I have learnt the norms and

skills required for the job role of department manager.


Our college B.VOC batch went for OJT training on dated 02-12-2018 to ELANTE MALL situated

at Chandigarh. I along with my 4 bacthmates i.e. five in total worked at the showroom of Italian

International brand United Colours of Benetton.

Elante Mall2 (https://www.elante.com/about.php) is located at Chandigarh, It is the part of

Nexus Group of Malls which is the India's retail portfolio of world's leading investment firm The

Blackstone Group. Elante is one of the hottest cultural hubs of the Chandigarh city. It is a first-

of-its-kind development that is equipped to cater to Business.

1. ELANTE MALL
The area in which Elante mall is spread across 20 acres, It consists of three different facilities

including the Elante Mall, Elante Office Complex & Hyatt Regency. The retail space houses

over 235 premium national and international brands which includes hypermarket, department

stores, fashion and designer brands, multiplex, toy store, Sports Bar, Bowling Alley,

Entertainment Zone and a host of Food & Beverage Options, many of which have been

introduced for the first time in the region.

Benetton Group is one of the best-known fashion companies in the world and it is present in the

most important markets in about 120 countries of the world with a network of about 5,000 stores.

The Group has a consolidated identity comprised of colour, authentic fashion, quality at

democratic prices and passion for its work: these values are reflected in the the strong, dynamic

personality of the brands United Colors of Benetton3 (http://www.benettongroup.com/work-with-

us/group-overview/) and Sisley.


DAY-1st

On the very first day we the group of five namely Diksha, Naresh, Rohan, Komal and me were

introduced with the area manager Mr. Jasmeet Singh, Store manager Mr. Robin, Mr.

Ramanadeep, Mr. Brijesh Mr, Manish and many more people already working there.

Jasmeet Sir fulfilled all the formalities required for OJT trainee’s there. After this he delivered an

introductory lecture regarding the brand and duties to be done. The main points of his

introductory lecture was

i. Introduction about the Departmental Manager

ii. Roles and responsibilities of Departmental Manager

iii. An overview about brief introductions of retail basics

After lecture he instructed to take overview of the store and other sections. Also, he instructed us

to make a product sheet with their locations so that we can remember the things. We also had

gone through the website of our brand Benetton to get the exact knowledge of the brand.

DAY-2

Training and briefing about the Store

On this day we got training and briefing about the store, besides this we also use our hands on

the selling of the various products on the basis of skills learnt in previous OJT. It was a store

with highly equipped store divided in five sections namely: two for men, two for women and one

for kids. In these sections garments and accessories widely used in all seasons were available.

We were instructed to learn basic and important skills required for communication. The training
was mainly based on Proper piling of the garments, customer handling, Tagging, stocking,

billing, software handling etc.

DAY-3

Besides helping our seniors in selling the products this day was mainly focused on work culture

of the organization and working of the store and understanding related customers criteria. We

come to learn the rules and regulations of working in organization. We come to learn how to

satisfy and establish customer needs and helping customers to identify the product of their choice

and to locate them. Confirm with customers that the products and supplies being packed,

wrapped and billed exactly match their selections.

DAY-4

On this day we come to know about the setup of the store and ways by which store is

organized. Jasmeet Sir delivered a brief lecture QP NOs for Retail Departmental Manager. We

also sell many products besides this training session.

Day-5

On this day besides regular selling of the products QP Nos based training started. First QP Nos

i.e. To Plan Visual Merchandising

The scope of this Nos is that this unit applies to individuals interpreting design briefs and getting

hold of the merchandise and props which is required for the display. The individual

should be able to put up products on display in a retail store, regularly check displays and deal

with substandard produce on display to enhance choice to customers.

On this day we come to learn about the following important points:


 Visual merchandise

 Effective visual displays

 Different aspects of a visual display

 Use different types of displays

 Techniques in retail stores

 Understand different requirements of displays

 Focus on making a display meaningful and its variation

Day-6

Likewise previous working day still training was based on the QP Norm To Plan Visual

Merchandising. Today besides regular store working we come to learn about the following

important points given below:

 Elements of displays,

 Understanding of the factors effect visual displays,

 Identify the color, size and other attributes of display of the products that match the

display,

 Arrangement of different types of displays in the store.

Day-7

Again training was based on the same QP No To Plan Visual Merchandising. Today Robin Sir

asked us about the previous days training and also helped us in clearing our doubts. The regular

working continued and besides that we come to learn about the following:

 Potential places for product display


 Arrange product in window display

 Manage shelf according to the product

 Explain the importance of product display

 Understand and explain planogram for retail outlet

 Merchandise in marketing and promotional campaign

 Use different props in retail shop, arrange fixture in a proper manner

 Arrange and display product in fixture use different promotional tool for marketing

Day-8

It was the last day of training On the QP nos To Plan Visual Merchandising. Besides

recapitulating the previous learning and regular selling today we come to learn about the

following important things:

 Monitor merchandise delivery and stock records explain the meaning of inventory,

 Understand how to manage inventory in retail store,

 Define different types of inventory management techniques for a retail store

 Use computer software in inventory management,

 Understand benefits of good inventory management system

So after these four days training on the QP Nos To Plan Visual Merchandising, we can
conclude that it is a very important Nos on the retail management sector. Also we come to learn
as expected according to RASCI:

 The role of displays in marketing, promotional and sales campaigns and activities.

 The importance and content of the design brief.

 Company policies for visual design.

 The merchandiser or buyer who needs to be consulted about merchandise and props.
 Why we must update stock records to account for merchandise on display and how to do

this
