Mrs. Ester Evans

District Manager
Glendale Union High School District
7650 N 43rd Ave
Glendale, AZ 85301

Dear Mrs. Evans:

At this time, I am writing to convey my interest in the Spanish Teacher position that is open in your
school district. I encountered this opportunity online with the instruction to reach out to you if I was
interested. As it turns out, I am very interested so here is my resume.

Over the last six years, I have been preparing myself for this opportunity. Six years you might be
asking. Why six years to complete a four-year degree? But I think that the preparation that I needed
to qualify for this job started a couple years before I enrolled into Chandler-Gilbert Community
College. Obviously to be a Spanish teacher, you have to speak Spanish. I had the very special
opportunity to be in the country Chile for two years of my life following high school to acquire this
necessary skill.

This time was very informative for me. At first, I felt all out of whack and I did not know what to do.
The experience was something 100% different from anything I had faced in my life up until that
point. Immersing myself into a new culture was something unexpected, but it was the only way for
me to appreciate the people that I was with. This taught me something extraordinary: if you want to
succeed where you stand, go at it with everything you have. I wanted to be accepted as a Chilean, so
I put myself out there and I learned their ways. When I got home, I wanted to be a successful student
so I put my heart into my studies. When I got married, I wanted to be a great husband so I worked
diligently on making my wife happy. Teaching will be a new challenge, but at the end of the day it
will be no different than the other cultures that I have adjusted to over the years. I know I can help
your students improve and feel better about their learning.

Support is key for success. Throughout the preparation that I have gone through to be a teacher, I
have realized that people are not always going to reach out to us. Sometimes, we have to go to them.
As I adjust to this new step, I will be helping the students the best I can, but I will not be afraid to ask
yourself and other leaders how to improve. My graduation from ASU has been very important for
me. I want all of my students to feel that same achievement by graduating first from high school,
then from college.

Briefly, I would like to remind you of the sincere interest that I have in this position. I am qualified
for the job, but my on-paper qualifications are not the only things that I plan on contributing to this
school district. I hope to influence students in the best way I can while helping them to master
principles of the Spanish language that they can apply in everyday life.

Sincerely,
Samuel Langston
