To the prevention or overcome the signs and symptoms of OA the guideline development team is

formed which consist of sixteen experts from four medical disciplines ( primary care ,rheumatology,
orthopedics, and evidence based medicines) ,two continents and six countries. The guidelines for the
management of hip and knee OA was established between 1945 and January 2006.To evaluate the
evidence before 2002 and after 2002. Before 2002 the evidence was based on the systemic review
conducted by European League against Rheumatism and evidence after 2002 was based on MEDILINE,
EMBASE,CINAHL, AMED,, the Cochrane Library and HTA report. Twenty out of 51 treatment modalities
were addressed by these guidelines. Optimal management of patients with hip and knee OA requires a
combination of pharmacological and non pharmacological therapy. There are twenty five carefully
worded guidelines were generated. These guidelines or recommendations will be revised regularly
following systemic review of new research evidence as it becomes available.
