French Beaded

Lavender

Materials for 1 lavender stem:

Beads:
• 6 grams size 11/0 purple or lavender seed beads (I like to mix different but similar shades of purple)
• 1.5 grams size 11/0 light green seed beads
Wire:
• 8 ft (~ 2.5 m) 26 gauge (.4 mm) light purple copper core wire
• 1 piece 18 gauge florist stem wire
Other:
• Green floral tape
Tools:
• Wire Cutters
• Bead Spinner (optional)

 Pre-string the beads: On the 26 gauge (.4 mm) purple wire string
beads in this pattern: 1x green, 8x purple, 2x green, 8x purple, 2x
green, 8x purple… continue until there are 83 sections of purple.
End with a single green bead.

Unit A (Photo 1):

Make 1:
1. Leave a 2 inch (5 cm) tail wire, then make a single loop using 1
green bead, 8 purple beads, and 1 green bead.
2. Twist down about 1/8 - 1/4 inch and make three Continuous
Loops using the same bead pattern. Keep these three loops all at
the same height.
3. Twist the working wire and tail wire together to form a unit
stem. Cut from the spool.

Photo 1 Unit B (Photo 2):

Make 1:
1. Leave a 2 inch (5 cm) tail wire, then make 4x Continuous
Loops with the same bead pattern.
2. Twist the working and tail wire to form a unit stem. Then cut
from the spool.

Unit C (Photo 3):

1. Leave a 3 -4 inch (7.6 - 10.2 cm) tail wire, then make 75x
Continuous Loops with the same bead pattern as the other
loops.
2. Leave another 3-4 inch tail wire and cut from the spool.
3. Leave this unit in a long strand.

Note: You can adjust the height of the

lavender spring by using more or less
Continuous Loops in Unit C.

 Assembly:
1. Wrap the 18 gauge stem wire with floral tape to prepare the surface.

2. Combine Unit A and B by inserting the unit stem wire of Unit A into the
center of Unit B. Do not twist the stems together. (Photo 4)

3. Cut a long length of floral tape in half lengthwise to make a half-width

tape. Use one of these skinnier tapes to attach the combined Units A and B
to the tip of the 18 gauge stem wire. (Photo 5)

4. Lay the tail wire of Unit C against the stem wire just below the tip units,
then carefully wrap Unit C around the stem wire, making sure to wrap over
the tail wire to secure it. Keep the wraps close together to minimize any
wires that show between loops. (Photo 6) The loops may not lay nicely at
first. Simply mold them into place so they cover the stem wire.
Photo 4 5. Continue wrapping all the way down the wire. Once the last loop is in
place, wrap the ending tail wire around the stem wire below the bottom
loops. (Photo 7)

6. Wrap over the tail wire with floral tape,
then give the flowers a little bend to shape
them. (Photo 8)
