What is Red October? Red October is a plot planned by the CPP with the
involvement of the Liberal Party, Magadalo Trillanes faction, Coalition of Justice
(supporters of ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno)and Movement Against
Tyranny (groups identified with the CHR), to oust or overthrow Pres. Rodrigo Roa
Duterte from his current position as the President of the Republic of the Philippines.
According to the article “The historical and cultural origins of ‘Red October’” by Dan
Manglinong, it was concluded that the alleged plot will be conducted initially on 21
September 2018 during the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law and to be
followed on the second week of October 2018 in which the armed wing of the CPP
which is the New People’s Army will heighten their attack. Additionally, series of CPP
activities will happen. Such activities are launching of massive ralliesand other violent
demonstrations to be conducted by several activist students of different schools and
universities in strategic areas of Metro Manila and offensive attacks of the NPA against
the military, police and civilian personnel involved in the Oplan Tokhang anti-drug
operation. The sole purpose of the planned rally was to provoke the government in
using military forces to ignite conflict and escalate the situation thus resulting to a
revolution utilizing the people power as imitating the previous two EDSA revolutions.
Historically, the above-mentioned revolutions was an effective strategy to overthrow the
incumbent president of the Philippines which were President Ferdinand E Marcos
(during the first EDSA revolution) and President Joseph E Estrada (during the EDSA
dos). With this, the CPP believed that this strategy is effective to oust the President
Rodrigo Roa Duterte in his current position).
As the Red October Plot was prevented by the government to execute, the CPP
then again created another issue and fabricated storyline. This time it was related to the
2019 National and Local Election in which it includes the Senatorial Election. Otso
Diretso (Straight Eight) was an electoral alliance of political parties in the Philippines
that lost in the 2019 Philippine general elections that are in opposition to President
Rodrigo Duterte (Wikipedia). Before the election was conducted, the average
awareness rating of Otso Diretso was noticeably decreased and it was announced in
the media nationwide. Simultaneously, as the election was approaching, the conspiracy
named “Bikoy Video” appeared in the public. What is the content of this video? It is the
release of a series of videos tagging key members of President Rodrigo Duterte's circle
as alleged members of drug syndicates made the month leading to the 2019 elections a
roller-coaster ride more than ever. It involves Peter Joemel Advincula as the man in the
hood behind the video and Jayme Rodel Hisona as the person who is responsible in
spreading the video online. Advincula approached the IBP (Integrated Bar of the
Philippines) and asked for protection return to his appearance in the public and giving
his statement. A Press Conference was organized by the other members of the IBP and
allowed Mr. Advincula to announce his statement. Before the media at the Integrated
Bar of the Philippines, Advincula reiterates his claims that presidential son Paolo
Duterte and senatorial candidate Christopher “Bong” Go, among others, are part of a
drug syndicate operating in Misibis Bay in Albay.
Advincula says he wants to sue Duterte and Go. He is now asking legal assistance from
the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) and that he is prepared to testify should the
Senate start an investigation. A few days later, the IBP declines Advincula's request for
legal aid to sue the younger Duterte and Go. IBP national president Abdiel Fajardo says
the decision "was reached after a thorough evaluation of his application was conducted
by the National Center for Legal Aid." Senate President Tito Sotto says in a Press
Conference that the claims of Advincula are not credible as he previously approached
his office in 2016 with information linking former president Benigno Aquino III and other
officials to drug syndicates. Senator Panfilo Lacson cancels the planned Senate hearing
on the claims of Advincula, saying “enough of this nonsense.” Justice Secretary
Menardo Guevarra issues an ultimatum to Advincula, saying he will be charged with
inciting to sedition if he does not go to the NBI to present evidence to back up his
claims. On 23 May 2019, Advincula surrendered to the police and claimed that the
Bikoy video was all fake. He says that he played a role in a script in which was created
by the Liberal Party to oust President Duterte and install Vice President Robredo as a
new president. In addition, he tags Senator Trillanes IV as the main person behind the
script.
Bottom line, members of the opposition will not stop to oust the current president.
They will keep on creating allegations against the government in order to destroy it. It
maybe in other form or strategy, but the main purpose of it is the same. They may not
succeed for the first time, but they will try again and again until a single objective of their
own was achieved and they are using other groups, rightist or rejectionist, as their allies.
Military is a big asset for them to be used as it provides weapons and security as well as
its organizational form in which it is organized and disciplined. As conclusion, based on
studies and research, the plan of the CPP to oust the president was actually true and
the Red October Plot was actually a name given by the AFP and was a successful
operation conducted by the AFP and PNPas a diversion in order to press the CPP in
ousting the president. It was the strategy executed by the AFP and not by the CPP. The
main purpose of it was to prevent the ousting of the president.
