SUBJECT TITLE: ARCHOJT (On-the-Job Training for Architecture Students)

OBJECTIVES: An off-campus skills development and practical learning aimed at


providing the students:
1. The opportunity to gain experience and familiarization with the various
specialty works by training in private architectural firms, government and
non-government offices engaged in design, planning, construction,
project management and other related fields.
2. The venue to appreciate the theories and principles and its applications,
validations in actual work situations of professional practice.
3. The benefits in terms of credits not only in the subject but also in thesis
preparation including the diversified experience required in the PRC
Licensure-board examination for architects.

Course Description: The course is an on the job training for architecture students. Supervised
and educationally directed, this initiates the student’s architectural
apprenticeship.

Credit Units: 3 units

Total no. of hours: 240 Hours

Mechanics:

Step 1: Prior to enrollment, the student is required to apply for off-campus OJT in
a professional office/firm (with student resume and letter of
recommendation signed by the Institute’s Dean).

Step 2: The student enroll/register in the subject ARCHOJT.

Step 3: Submit the following documents one week before the opening of classes
to the IARFA office, the following documents will be forwarded to the
ARCHOJT faculty advisers.
a. Practicum Waiver
b. Notarized Memorandum of Agreement
c. Certificate of Acceptance
d. Summary Log sheet report envelope

Step 4: The student reports for regular training from Mondays thru Fridays in the
office/firm and receive instructions and works under the supervision of the
architect or his partner/assistant/job captain. Weekly consultation of
students with IARFA faculty adviser is held during Mondays through the

FEU Learning Management System (CANVAS) and with a scheduled class


meeting (if necessary) approved by the Institute Dean.

Step 5: The faculty monitors the students’ progress and evaluate their
performance in coordination with the architect or his
partner/assistant/project captain.

Step 6: Performance ratings/grade: Evaluation of student after completion of


required number of hours for the OJT, which is 240 hours.

General Instructions

A. Memorandum of Agreement
1. Download, Edit & Print. Do NOT change any content, no. of pages, size of paper (8.5" x 14") and
font. Edit means you can fill-up the required information, EDIT THE DATES (digital print and
avoid handwriting), then Print.
2. Only 1 set of MOA (2 copy sets) needs to be prepared. If it happens that several of you belongs to
only one firm and you are in different class sections, coordinate and prepare only 1 set of
MOA
(2 copy sets)
3. Have the 2 signed copies and forward it to your OJT firms to be signed by them. Collect ONLY 1
copy and submit back to your class adviser thru the IARFA Office.
4. Submit the properly filled Notarized Memorandum of Agreement to your respective class
adviser. The class adviser after reviewing the Memorandum of Agreement will forward the
collected MOA to the IARFA office.

Initially, you can print this MOA (blank copy) and let the firm read for reference. Edit and print if firm
is in agreement.

Note that the summer ARCHOJT program must be completed within 6 weeks of this term. Submit all
required forms to advisers every Monday through the FEU Learning Management System. Non-
submission, non-compliance and absences/non reporting to class adviser will result to rejection of
your firm evaluation grade which eventually will lead to grade failure.

2. Have the certificate of acceptance be signed by the Supervising Architect

1. Download, Edit & Print. Part 1 will be filled up by the student and part 2 by the Supervising
Architect.
2. Supervising Architect will evaluate and rate the students. A rate of 74 and below constitutes
a failing grade.
3. The student will return and submit the completed evaluation form through the FEU Learning
Management System (CANVAS).

Note:
Consolidated printed copies of the all requirements (A to E and Final OJT Report) will be submitted to
the OJT adviser by hand delivery during the Final examination week.

A soft copy of all consolidated requirements (A to E and Final OJT Report) must be uploaded at the
Institute OJT Archives (a link will be forwarded one week prior to the Final examination schedule).

Role of the Class Adviser / Practicum Coordinator


1. The class adviser shall orient and brief the students regarding proper decorum/attitude, behavior and work ethics prior to their
deployment in OJT firms.
2. The class adviser must require the student /parent / guardian to execute and submit a signed waiver (issued by FEU-IARFA)
and other important documents prior to deployment in OJT firms
3. The class adviser shall monitor the progress of the student by performing site visits on OJT firms and communicating with their
supervisors concerning their performance and attitude. Weekly accomplishment reports/attendance monitoring will be required
by the class adviser every Monday for review and reference as basis of the student’s partial grade.
4. The class adviser must provide venue for announcements, communication and consultation for students for proper
guidance and assistance.
5. The class adviser shall evaluate and provide partial grade with the use of rubrics based on the
student’s performance/compliance with requirements, compute and encode the final grade.

Role of the Student


1. The student must comply/submit all requirements and true information to the class adviser. Any deliberate effort to mislead will
result to invalidation of completed hours and/or failure in the course.
2. Regularly monitor the FEU Learning Management System (CANVAS) for announcements related to their compliance with all
submissions/requirements/attendance/consultation.
3. The student shall observe right attitude, good work ethics and behavior in the work place. Compliance with rules and
regulations of the OJT firm is a must.
4. The student will be personally responsible for any and all liabilities for damage to property or injury to third persons, which may
be occasioned by their intentional or negligent acts in the course of the internship.
5. The student must comply with the required number of hours (240 hours) to complete the OJT with their respective firm/s.

Role of the Industry Partner


1. Screen, select, and deploy student-interns to the different offices and operating units of the INDUSTRY PARTNER;
2. Designate from among its employees an Industry Supervisor (Registered Architect) who will be assigned the following
responsibilities:
a. Serve as mentor to the student-interns;
b. Give the student-interns course-related work assignments and expose them to the architectural learning experience on
actual operations and management;
c. Expose the student-interns to real situation problems and bottlenecks thus enabling them to analyze and apply scientific
as well as empirical approach to the solution of technical problems related to the practice of Architecture;
d. Arrange a conference with the Program Director when student-intern problem arises;

2. Deploy the student-interns to the different operating units of the INDUSTRY PARTNER for a fixed period of time which will
depend upon the course taken by the student-intern and as agreed upon on a case to case basis by the INDUSTRY
PARTNER and the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION;
3. Adhere to all regulations regarding labor laws pertaining to internship or learners’ programs, as well as health and safety laws;
4. Provide safety instruction throughout the internship period;
5. Accomplish the necessary forms required by the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION in connection with the internship of their students;
6. Shall evaluate/rate the student interns based on the following criteria:

MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS:

This Agreement made and entered into by and between:

FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY , existing under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines,
with office address on Nicanor Reyes Sr. St., Sampaloc, Manila, represented herein by its
Dean, RAQUEL L. BAQUIRAN, hereinafter referred to as ACADEMIC INSTITUTION;

– and –

________________________________, existing under the laws of the Republic of the


Philippines, with office address on

Manager, _______________________________, hereinafter referred to as INDUSTRY
PARTNER.

WITNESSETH

WHEREAS, the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION is offering the B.S. in Architecture program, has instituted an on-
the-job-training Program, wherein qualified students undergo practical training prior to graduation in
order to be adequately familiar with actual office and industrial operations and management to
complement their formal training;
WHEREAS, the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION proposes that its students be allowed to undergo on-the-job
training at the INDUSTRY PARTNER’S facilities and offices, which proposal was accepted/approved by
the latter, subject to terms and conditions provided for in this Memorandum of Agreement;
WHEREAS, the INDUSTRY PARTNER agrees to accept students of the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION as interns
at its various facilities in support of such Internship Program and complement existing B.S in
Architecture curriculum to match industry demands;
NOW, THEREFORE, for and in consideration of the foregoing premises, the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION and
the INDUSTRY PARTNER agree and stipulate the following:
A. The ACADEMIC INSTITUTION shall:

1. Designate a Program Coordinator/Adviser who will supervise the internship program and
coordinate with the INDUSTRY PARTNER various activities under this Program;

2. Pre-select and recommend qualified students who will undergo the internship taking
into consideration the requirement of the INDUSTRY PARTNER in terms of qualification
and number of interns needed, it being understood that only students taking courses
wherein internship is an academic requirement will be recommended;

3. Submit to the INDUSTRY PARTNER, the resumé and all other documents required
under this program, which shall serve as the basis of the INDUSTRY PARTNER to
screen, select and deploy specific students for Internship;
4. Orient students about rules, proper attitude, behavior and work ethics inside the
internship site;

5. Monitor attendance, activities and performance of students during the internship


program in the INDUSTRY PARTNER;

6. Monitor compatibility of job circumstances with the internship course requirements


for the students’ attainment of advanced standing in the program through regular
interaction with the student-interns and regular visit to the internship site;

7. Together with the students and parents concerned, renounce and waive any claim
against the INDUSTRY PARTNER for injury that the students may sustain or loss that
they suffer, personal or pecuniary, arising from negligence in the performance of
their duties and functions while under training. The waiver of the student-interns
and their respective parents shall be submitted to the INDUSTRY PARTNER prior to
commencement of the internship.

8. Hold the INDUSTRY PARTNER free from any claims or suits and shall forever defend
the INDUSTRY PARTNER from any such claim or suit whatsoever in connection with
this memorandum.

B. The INDUSTRY PARTNER shall:

8. Issue certificate of completion to student-interns who successfully finish their


training under this program;

9. Adopt and enforce rules that will govern the conduct of the program. Said rules shall
be made known to the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION and student-interns before the start
of the training.

C. Under this Memorandum of Agreement, the following terms and conditions are likewise included:

1. It is expressly understood that there will be no employer-employee relationship


between the INDUSTRY PARTNER and the student-interns of the ACADEMIC
INSTITUTION;

2. The student-interns will be personally responsible for any and all liabilities for
damage to property or injury to third persons, which may be occasioned by their
intentional or negligent acts in the course of the internship;

3. The student-interns and the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION shall abide by the INDUSTRY
PARTNER’S rules and regulations and comply with those imposed for the program;
otherwise they shall be excluded from further participation;

4. The student-interns are required to accomplish only a minimum of 200 hours to


complete the internship since it’s only a summer offering.

5. The ACADEMIC INSTITUTION may pull out any student from the INDUSTRY PARTNER
on reasonable grounds after a written notice sent to the INDUSTRY PARTNER
requesting such a pull out;

6. That both parties shall exert all efforts necessary to achieve the objectives of this
joint undertaking; and

7. That neither of the parties shall be liable to any one in any way for the failure to
observe or perform any provision of this Agreement if such failure be caused by any
law, rule or regulation of any constituted public authority or shall be to any cause
beyond the control of the party in default.

D. Duration:

This Agreement shall take effect immediately upon signing hereof and shall continue thereafter,
provided however that any provision of this Agreement may be amended by written consent by both
parties herein provided further that the INDUSTRY PARTNER or the ACADEMIC INSTITUTION reserves
the right to withdraw its participation in the agreement upon written notice.
