Re: Media recognition for your team’s accomplishments
Date: March 2018

Congratulations on attending the Enactus Regional Competition! To celebrate your

accomplishments and help you share the news with your campus and community, we have
prepared a template press release that you can customize for your team. We’ve also included
some tips below for interacting with the media.

If a story does appear, please e-mail a link or PDF to Rachel Mobely at Enactus United States,
rmobley@enactus.org, Congrats again on a terrific year!

TIPS FOR CONTACTING MEDIA:

 Your university’s Communications Office may be a great resource in helping you share your
news on campus with alumni and by helping you distribute your release to the media.

 It’s important to use an up-to-date contact list, so take the time to call to all your press points
and prepare a database with the contact name, outlet name, address, phone and e-mail.

 Distribute your release to: local newspapers, school newsletter, team web site, radio
stations, TV, civic organizations, advisory board members, supporters and targeted donors.

 Typically, press releases are e-mailed to reporters. Some will not open attachments if they
are not familiar with the sender, so it’s best to copy and paste the release into the body of
the e-mail, below a brief introductory note. Identify your group and why you are writing with a
one-sentence overview of press release. Be sure to include contact information.

 Tip: Contact with the media should be clear, succinct and polite. Reporters are often on
deadline and under stress. Remember to send a thank you note for press coverage.

 Adding a photo will improve your chances of coverage. Photos should feature close-up
action shots of an actual project, interaction between team members and participants such
as children, or a close-up team photo. Photos should be color, and at least 150 dpi (300 dpi
is preferred), or file size of at least 1MB. Make sure to include a caption describing what is
happening (including date and location if applicable) and who is in the photo. Example:

CEO, Greatest American Widget Company, Ellen Stewart, Founder, Girls in Action.
