WARM-UP:
Aims: -to greet the SS;
-to mark the absentees;
-to relax the classroom atmosphere;
-to check previous knowledge;
-to revise the previously taught vocabulary through commands;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T;
Techniques: question-answer, mime and gesture; repetition;
Timing: 2’;
Procedure: -T. greets the students and asks them how they feel. The T. revises the previously taught
vocabulary and consolidates through commands the previously taught vocabulary.
ACTIVITY 1: LEAD-IN
Aims: -to relax the classroom atmosphere;
-to check previous knowledge;
-to raise the Ss’ interest in the topic of the lesson;
-to introduce the Ss. into the subject of the lesson;
-to announce the Ss the objectives of the lesson: talking about actions; abilities and senses;
Techniques: question-answer, mime and gesture; choral repetition;
Timing: 3’;
Interaction: T-Ss: Ss-T;
Procedure: -T. gives SS some commands “clap your hands.....”and announces the SS that they are
going to talk about actions, abilities, and senses;

ACTIVITY 2: REVISION OF THE PREVIOUS LEARNT VOCABULARY


Aims: -to motivate Ss. to interact and exchange ideas and information;
-to revise actions, the verb “can”;
-to check SS’ comprehension through miming actions;
-to motivate the SS to make sentences of their own by using visual prompts;
-to raise the Ss’ interest in the topic of the lesson;
-to introduce the Ss. into the subject of the lesson;

Procedure: Task 1: T. relaxes the atmosphere of the class by telling the SS they are going to watch a video
and listen to the “Action song”-Singing Walrus. The T asks SS to sing and mime the actions
they heard.
Task 2: After the song the teacher leads a feedback session to check if SS have acquired and
understood the meanings of the actions. He puts the SS into three large groups and announces
that they are going to play a game “MIME THE ACTION”. T picks a card with a word
representing an action written on it, reads the word and SS have to mime that action. The
group which has the most correct answers wins the game.
Task 3: SS are shown a poster of TIM and some of the actions he can do. The T asks the SS
to name the activities that TIM can do and make sentences about what TIM can do using the
verb “can” for expressing abilities. As the SS give their answers the T gradually uncovers the
written words so that SS have the possibility to see how the sentences are written. They
finally repeat the sentences in chorus.
T. asks SS a simple question, if they can touch their head.

ACTIVITY 3: INTRODUCING THE NEW VOCABULARY:


Aims: - to introduce and familiarize SS. with the verb “can” to talk about senses;
-to practice and use the grammatical structure in sentences of their own;
-to help SS discover the meaning of the unknown vocabulary through elicitation and matching
exercise;
-to provide a stimulating means of practicing the new vocabulary related to the topic of
“senses”- drawings; video song; worksheets;
-to check Ss comprehension;
-to improve pronunciation;
-to check the Ss recognition of the newly acquired vocabulary;
-to revise and improve SS’ vocabulary introducing the new vocabulary related to body parts and
senses;

Procedure: -SS listen to and sing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” song
Task 1-T announces the game “Simon Says.....touch your head, eyes.....” telling the SS that
they have to do exactly what Simon says. In this way the T is checking the SS’ comprehension of
the previously taught vocabulary;
T introduces the new vocabulary about senses using the picture of a head and asking questions
about eyes, ears, nose, tongue, fingers and how they are useful to us.

ACTIVITY 3-CONSOLIDATING AND PRODUCING THE NEW VOCABULARY:


Aims: -to consolidate the new introduced vocabulary through listening;
-to check the Ss’ level of acquisition of the newly taught material;
-to receive feedback from the Ss;
Techniques: question-answer, discussion, choral and individual repetition, monitoring;
Timing: 10‘;
Interaction: T-SS; SS-T; PW; IW;
Procedure: T. tells SS they are going to see a video and listen carefully to the song trying to reproduce
the sentences and sing along.
Task 1: T asks the SS to solve the worksheet in pairs.
T. praises all the SS., gives them rewards and good marks to those SS who performed well
during the activities.
SS are asked to draw on their worksheet a happy face if they enjoyed the lesson or a sad one if
they didn’t.
