Generic AT statements for IEPs

When writing an IEP, specific Assistive Technology should NOT be mentioned by name due
to the changing nature of technology. Rather a generic description of the AT should be
stated because this does not change.

For example “speech to text” allows a student to type with their voice, If you were to write
“Dragon Naturally Speaking”, that software is out-of-date and is no longer supported. If
you wrote speech-to-text, your student can use the latest version of the support, which
would be Voice Typing in Google Docs. In a few months, the name may change but the
generic statement “speech to text will remain the same”.

This list contains the most commonly used AT, but it is not all-inclusive. If an item does not
appear on this list, please contact the PCCS A&IT team for direction as to how it should be
described in the IEP.
