NONRENEWABLE

AND
RENEWABLE
RESOURCES
Natural Resources

All of the Earth’s organisms, air,

water, and soil, as well as materials
such as oil, coal, and ore that are
removed from the ground.

Separated into two broad categories:

✓Renewable resources
✓Nonrenewable resources
ENERGY RESOURCES

- IS SOMETHING THAT CAN

PRODUCE HEAT, POWERLIFE,
MOVE OBJECTS OR PRODUCE
ELECTRICITY.
1. NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES

A nonrenewable resource is a natural

resource that cannot be re-made or
re-grown at a scale comparable to its
consumption.
1. NUCLEAR ENERGY
Nuclear
Plant uses
uranium as
fuel, a clean
and efficient
way to drive
turbine
generators.
2. FOSSIL FUEL

Coal, petroleum, and

natural gas
2. FOSSIL FUEL
COAL - is a
combustible black
or brownish-black
sedimentary rock
usually occurring
in rock layers or
called coal beds or
coal seams.
2. FOSSIL FUEL
PETROLEUM - is
a naturally
occurring,
yellow-to-black
liquid found in
geological
formations
beneath the
Earth's surface.
2. FOSSIL FUEL
NATURAL GAS –
a naturally occurring
hydrocarbon gas
mixture consisting
primarily of
methane. It can be
found deep beneath
the earth's surface.
Process in fossil fuel powerplants
1. Fossil fuels are burnt in power plant

2. Heat is released and is used to convert

water to steam

3. Steam will be used to rotate turbines

4. The turbines will activate generators that

convert it to mechanical energy to electrical
energy.

HOW ARE OIL AND GAS MADE ???
2. RENEWABLE RESOURCES
Renewable resources are
natural resources that can be
replenished in a short period
of time.
● Solar ● Geothermal
● Wind ● Biomass
● Water ● Biogas
1. SOLAR

Energy from
the sun.
2. GEOTHERMAL

Energy from
Earth’s heat.
3. WIND

Energy from
the wind.

4. BIOMASS
• Biomass is waste material from
plants or animals that is not used for
food or feed; it can be waste from
farming, food processing, animal
farming, or human waste from
sewage plants. It is used in various
industrial processes, like energy
production or as materials for
manufacturing fertilizers.
4. BIOMASS
• Biomass is fuel that is developed
from organic materials, a
renewable and sustainable
source of energy used to create
electricity or other forms of
power.
5. BIOGAS
• Biogas is a combustible mixture of
gases.
• Biogas can be produced from raw
materials such as agricultural
waste, manure, municipal waste,
plant material, sewage, green
waste or food waste.
5. BIOGAS
• The gases form are the waste
products of the respiration of these
decomposer microorganisms.

Methanogens
6. HYDROTHERMAL ENERGY
• Hydrothermal energy is power that
is generated using the Earth's hot
water.
• Energy is produced by hot water,
especially water heated
underground by the Earth's internal
heat.
• is the process of obtaining heat or
energy from a large body of water.
7. WATER or HYDROELECTRIC

Energy
from the
flow of
water.
