Introduction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday set a target for India to be a developed
nation by 2017 when it would celebrate the centenary of Independence and asserted that a
BJP-led government will lay the foundation over the next five years to achieve this goal.

Unveiling the BJP manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, Modi said the party's top
priority will be to empower the poor, increase farm income and strengthening national
security were the key themes of the poll document or 'Sankalp Patra'.

The Prime Minister said his government will focus on last mile delivery, which would be
the singular mission for becoming a developed nation by 2047.

“We will embark on one mission, one direction to fulfil the dreams of our freedom
fighters,” he said. Modi said though the party's manifesto was for the next five year, he
wanted the people to seek an interim account from him and hence the BJP has set 75
definite time bound targets to be achieved by 2022 – 75th anniversary of India’s
Independence.

“We have decided to take 75 steps that are time-bound and well defined that will be
achieved by 2022. This is the first time that a party wants to give an interim account of its
work done in the government,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that his government had focused on meeting the requirements of
the people over the last five years and it will seek to fulfil their aspirations in the next five
years.

Why is India still a developing country?

India is one of the fastest developing country in the world. But you can see the fact that
the speed of the development is not as good when compared to the other countries that are
already developed and that are much superior than India. There are many reason behind
the lack in the development criteria of India. Most of the people realize that India is very
slow in development but they don't focus on what to be done in order to make India a
developed country. There are many issues in our country that are preventing India from
becoming the developed nation. This resource will provide information on the issues that
are preventing India to be the developed country. The reasons are as follows-
1. Increase in population
India holds the second rank in the population. There are many things to be taken into
consideration because of the population issues. If a country is highly populated it is sure
that the development of the country will also be very slow. There will be a lot of necessity
for the resources to be shared among the people of the country. The major fact is that
there should be resources available for the same to be distributed among the people. If the
population of the country is brought into the proper control it can be said that there are
lots of possibilities to make our country one of the developed countries. In this criteria it
can be said that the population is the first reason on why India is still a country that is not
developed. For a developed country it is necessary that the resources should be equally
shared among the people of the country. In this case because of the drastic increase in the
population the resources are not shared properly. There is a quote said by Jawaharlal
Nehru "India is rich but Indians are Poor". The reason is because the resources are not
shared properly among the people. There has to be some critical solution for this
condition. Some people also lack responsibility and this has also been one of the reason
on why there is a great increase in the population of the country.
2. Lack of unity among people

Unity is the strength of any nation. If the people are united then they get the great strength
to tackle any kind of problem that is approaching them. This is the reason why people
focus on the unity part of it. But in India we can very well say that there is no unity
among the people. This is the reason why British held us as slaves for many years. People
think that they don't have necessity to interfere in the matter of the country. This made the
people get comfortably seated in our country. We can also tell that our country people are

5
divided among them with a great thing called the language. The people speak different
language that had made them not to communicate with each other. At the earlier stage
there were also no people to travel from one place to another place and this was the
reason why the people couldn't get chance to mingle with the other people. In the coming
years if the chances for creating unity among the people is increased then we can very
well tell that there will be a very fast development in our country.

3. Politics in India

Politics is a great issue in any country. There should be a government and there should be
a rule to govern the people and direct them to the right path. It is very much necessary
that people should be given proper rules and we should make them follow that. The rules
that are given to the people of India will create some discipline among them. Not all the
political people are genuine and work for the people and the welfare of the people. It can
be clearly seen that the political leaders tells lots of things during the election time to
develop the nation. Everything goes as if written in the water. Because of these type of
political leaders the country is not yet developed at all.

Political leaders focus mainly on earning lots of money when they are in the political
fields. Even people know many bad political leaders who are in the higher position but
they have no powers and mouth to tell about them to the authorities or to question them
directly. If the India has to be made a developed nation then it is very much necessary that
the political field should undergo a severe change. The political leaders should be taken
out from their seat. I can even tell that the educated and well experienced people should
be sent to those responsible seats to rule the country and make decisions for the sake of
the country

4. Corruption a major issue

Corruption has now become a great issue in our country. India is ranking a great position
in the corruption. This can prove how bad the condition of India is. There are many
people who is performing corruption. In some cases it can be said that we can get our
work done only when we give bribe. If we are not giving then we will not get that job
finished. In the corruption India is ranking the top 10 lists. But there is no initiative taken
to clear the problem of corruption in our country. There are also many anti corruption
forces acting all over India and in spite of these forces the corruption is taking place. The

6
Indian people are affected to greater extent because of the corruption. Event the good
people are affected because of the one who is performing the corruption. This is also one
of the major reason on why Our India is not a developed nation still. There has to be some
strict rules to be issued by the government to eradicate the corruption in our country. In
some cases the innocent people are also forced to get bribe and they force them to get
their job finished. This is the reason why the good people are also affected because of the
one who is doing corruption.
5. People being in below poverty line

The rich get richer and the poor gets poorer. There are still many people who are below
poverty line in our country. The people who are below poverty line are not given any
importance. According to me the government should take some perfect initiative to make
the below poverty line people above the poverty line. There are still many families in the
India who are not having money for their one time food in a day. When ever a good thing
is given for the reach of the people below poverty line then those things are taken away
by the people who are dealing in the middle. Government is now far better providing all
the free facilities for the people to bring them up from the poverty line.
6. Illiteracy a serious problem

India is very poor in the education aspect. When compared to education on the various
states in India we can tell that Kerala is the fist state in the literacy and the most sad thing
is that Bihar is the state in India that is very poor in the poverty criteria. There are also
many other reason why the Illiteracy remains in India. The parents who are below poverty
line doesn't know the value of the education. They send their children to work for the
daily wages. This is the reason why the people are easily cheated by the other people. The
value of the education is to be known by the people because they are going to stay as an
example for the future generations.

When we focus on the development criteria of our nation first we should focus on the
educational point of view. If a person is educated then it can be said that he can gain
experience on what should be done and what should not be done. There are also many
educational programs provided by the Government of India to make the people literate. If
the people are literate then there will not be any problem in anything. There will be a easy
development of our nation.

7
7. Divide and rule policy

The divide and rule policy was created by the British people. To tell about the people of
India, they are already divided because of the languages. There are people who speak
different languages in different part of our country. Then when the divide and rule policy
came into existence the unity was broken. When the unity of a country is broken the
chaos occurs easily inside the country itself. People also fight among themselves. This
was the great plan made by the British people and this is the reason the divide and rule
policy was implemented and this acted as the basement for restricting the development of
our country to a greater extent.

8. Brain Drain

Brain drain is the next issue that makes India still a developing nation and the people of
India mostly use all the resources from India to gain lots of knowledge and then finally
they get themselves settled in the foreign countries. This makes a great way for the
development of that particular country and it is a major drawback for our country. Brain
drain is usually done by the one who thinks that there are now developments available in
our country. We can also tell that the point of view of the people who settle in the other
country and work for the other country is right because, if a person has developed himself
in India he is not provided with great opportunity to develop himself in India.

The reason for the brain drain may be because of political issues or any other issues. This
is a serious problem in India and this is the reason why a person choses to go to foreign
country to shine his carrier. Brain drain is now developing to a greater extent. People are
given great importance in the other countries. There is also a thought that the Indian
brains are the most powerful brains in the world. The reason for the restriction in the
development of our country is that the Indian brains are not given proper recognition or
the Indian brains are not used properly by the proper person at the proper instance.

8
Ways to make India a Developed Nation

1. Increased penalty and immediate action for crime

Crime Records in India are pending for ages. There could be 10% which have immediate
judgements in India. Also every judgement will have an option to come out of it. In order
to avoid any crime the penalty for each crime should be severe and immediate, and no
option should be given as an alternative for the judgement finalized. Every individual
who committed crime must undergo the severe punishments, which0 will not allow the
any other person in the country to commit the same crime.

2. Death sentence for rapists

India is now in the trend of rape. Every day in the paper we read at least an average of 2
incidents of rape. There has been no reduction in these cases. Men attempting do not fear
of anything. Single punishment for rape should be “Death”. Men should be scared even to
touch a women when this is the case. Any kind of eve teasing should also have severe
punishments to avoid any sexual harassment.

3. Strict and immediate action for corruption

Corruption is our major threat. Every year we come across a major scam and multiple
crores are in picture in such scams. However people forget as the year passes, reason
being there are no judgements given for such, which allows people to perform such scams
as they wish. As mentioned above, there should be immediate judgement and severe
punishment for the corruption, which should dare people to get into the world of
corruption.

4. Payment of Prompt and Real tax

Black Money – In India, Black money refers to funds earned on the black market, on
which income and other taxes have not been paid. The total amount of black money
deposited in foreign banks by Indians is unknown. Some reports claim a total exceeding
US$1.4 trillion are stashed in Switzerland. If every Indian takes up the responsibility to
pay the Real tax promptly and effectively, the money which is supposed to be utilized for

9
India development will be utilized efficiently and India do not have to look forward from
other World Organizations.

5. Minimum Wages For Every Citizen of India

Similar to UK, USA and other western countries, India must implement
improvised National Minimum Wages Act and make the employers follow it strictly. No
citizen must work less than a certain amount of daily wages. This will benefit towards the
country’s development in many ways. Currently we do have Minimum Wages Act
1948 which is not effectively followed by the employers.

The long-term aim of a minimum wage is to remove the problem of poverty pay, which
exists when the earnings from paid work do not result in a living wage and fail to push
people out of poverty. There will be no citizen in the country below poverty line.

6. Start Green revolution

India is supposed to be a Green India however when we enter any hi tech city we see only
buildings and no trees. As a result there is pollution, no rain and people end up with
suffering from unknown diseases. Every individual should take up responsibility of
having a tree per house at least to make India a Green India.

7. Decentralization of power

The local village or panchayat or colony or ward knows which the best decision for them
is, in terms of electricity/roads/farming/dams. They should be given fair right to make
that decision. Centralizing it is like trying to “fit one size for all”. Also, it will reduce the
corruption as funds are not centralized in one place.

8. Proper/Neat and Fair Transportation

Transportation is a major issue in multiple states of India. 10% of the cities have good
transportation, but the 90% do not. Issues seen: Public transport vehicles not in a good
condition, not neat, the bus/railway stations are not neat, buses are always almost
crowded, no sufficient frequency of transport, no queue system while waiting for
bus/train. Metros are having such facilities, however not every village in India have a

10
metro. In order to make India a developed country the transportation system should be
proper, neat and fair.

9. People with Civic sense

This is one of the difficult task to look for. There are spit marks, urine, vulgar graffiti,
random garbage and overflowing sewers at every nook and corner of India. NO city in
this country has managed to fight the menace. It is easy to pin everything on the
government, but people must first question themselves and their own civic sense. Roads
are not dirty because nobody cleaned it, but because somebody dirtied it in the first place.

Civic sense is nothing but social ethics. Even swine flu, which is quickly spreading across
the country, was caused by the absence of hygiene. This must be followed by every
citizen without having the excuse “everybody does it”.

10. Treat and Respect all Human beings as one

Recommendation and Reservations are making the skilled and eligible people to move
away from what they are supposed to do. Every talented individual is eliminated just
because of the system of recommendation and reservations from higher and known
people. All Indians should be treated as one.

11. Disciplined traffic and following the rules

Most of the accidents are due to undisciplined traffic. Time is something which is making
us not to follow the rules. Best way is to start early and follow the rules to avoid accidents
and more delay in traffic by not following the rules.

12. Clean and Neat Public Toilets

Have you ever seen a neat and clean public toilet in any of the bus stations? This is
something which lies in our hands and the government. Every individual should ensure
the toilet is ready for others to use when you leave. This doesn’t mean you have to clean
it, you have to use it well. Government should ensure we have a neat, clean, hygienic
public toilets for use.

13. Appropriate customer service across all fields

Day in and Day out we need to work with multiple departments with the government. Of
course everyone knows that the response in government offices and drastically less

11
compared to private companies. Every government agent should take up the responsibility
and accountability to do their work promptly and effectively.

14. Work for your own country

Every year we have multiple engineers and doctors coming out of India. Efficient
individuals leave the country and provide their expertise in other countries, which makes
Indians to reach out to other country for services given by Indians outside India. Most of
the developed countries have around 20% of their growth due to Indian minds.

15. Clean and Neat Rivers/Water Bodies

What is the condition of our major rivers of India? Every corner of the river/water body
there are waste items, all rivers are polluted, and all water bodies in the cities are having a
wicked smell when you cross it. We need to have clean and neat water bodies in India.
Responsibility lies with every Indian and the government. Do not throw garbage in the
water bodies, it is not a dustbin.

16. Give priority for Agriculture

Agriculture is the back bone of India. 75% of India is agricultural land. Most priority
should be given to agriculture and farmers to make India a developed country. Every year
there has been increase in the rate of farmers’ suicides. And the generation of farmers
look forward for IT rather than agriculture. Priority for agriculture will help in
maintaining our back bone steady.

17. Effective and affordable Public Health Care

Public Health care are not as effective as private health care. And the private health care
is not affordable for every being in India. Government should take extensive measures of
having effective and affordable public health care which is accessible at every part of
India

18. Increased Literacy rate

The literacy rate in India stands at 75.04% in 2018. The literacy rate should be 100% in
order to make India a developed country. The understanding of every part of what we do

12
can be achieved only though education. And this education should be proper and the
result should be effective.

19. Pollution Control

Pollution is another major threat. Everywhere there are pollution, especially in cities, air
pollution, water pollution etc. Eradicating pollution will be a difficult task, but controlling
the pollution lies in the hands of each individual and the government.

20. Utilization of Indian products

Again a difficult task to look forward. Nowadays every product we use is a foreign
product, sometimes we do not realise which is Indian product and which is foreign made.
As Narendra Modi says, if we use and purchase only Indian products for a span of 90
days, the value of 1 US $ will be equal to 1 Rupee.

21. Fair decision in Sports and Other fields

Every field is losing efficient resources due to corruption. Especially sports field. The
selection of players are not done in a fair manner for most of the sports which is making
us lose multiple gold medals in international level games. Corrective and Fair decision
should be made in in Sports and other fields.

22. Clean up your own mess

Cleanliness is something which is not prevailing in India in almost 90% of areas. Every
Indian should be responsible enough, not to dirty your own nation. Clean up your own
mess and the nation will be clean by itself. Ensure your surroundings are clean and neat
and you should not be the factor of littering on roads and in public places.

23. Women should walk at will even during night (“alone”)

India should be in a state where a woman should be able to walk alone at will even during
night times. There should be no threat to her from the society.

24. Proper implementation of Government plans

Government is bringing up multiple plans to make India a developed country, however

everything in vain. This is due the stage where the implementation of such plans are not

13
effective. Major reason is due to corruption and scams. If the plans proposed are
implemented successfully as expected, India will become a developed country soon.

25. Eradicate Bribery

Bribery is one of the major reasons keeping India still a developing country. Giver and
taker are responsible for such crimes. This should be considered as a huge crime and
punishment should be severe. Giving 100 to the Traffic police for not wearing helmet has
become a fashion nowadays. All such activities should be controlled and bribery should
be eradicated.

10 Steps of Modi Government for a Better India

1. Clean India Campaign

Prime Minister made an appeal for a Clean India or Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on 2 Oct
2014 which has been a non-political movement with an aim to make India clean by
October, 2nd 2019, on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. During this drive,
the focus is to eliminate the open defecation, which is a blot on the society, especially for
young girl and women. He flagged off the drive at Valmiki Basti which is a housing
society in central Delhi for sanitation workers. This has been the most basic yet effective
initiative by him transforming the image of Being Indian.

14
2. Make in India

This is yet another bold step taken by Modi team introduced on September 25, 2014, at
Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi before a league of Indian business players. It focuses on
attracting more investment, promote innovation, protect Intellectual properties, boost skill
development and develop world-class manufacturing infrastructure in India. This is
ideally a program to promote Indian products, create skill-based job opportunities by
establishing industrial sector and leveraging the existing talent based in India. This
concept of ‘Make in India’ has been applauded by worldwide leaders generating a
positive response from foreign companies. The basic concept is to go and sell in any
country of the world, manufacturing in India.

3. Creation of NITI Aayog Replacing Planning Commission

Through a resolution of the Union Cabinet on 1 Jan 2015, the Modi-led government
formed National Institution of Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, which is a policymaker
of Government of India replacing Planning Commission. It was headed by PM Modi and
its members consisting of well-known and top economists, reformers, consultant, and
advisers. It is the successor of planning commission with a focus to provide advice,
monitor and evaluate the implementation of drives, programs and initiatives of national
development priorities sectors.

15
4. Jan DhanYojana

Pradhan Mantri Jan DhanYojana was introduced on 15 August 2014 by PM Narendra

Modi, which has been his flagship financial inclusion mission with a slogan “MeraKhata,
BhagyaVidhta”. This drive was initiated to ensure access to financial services, like saving
and current accounts, remittance, pension, insurance easily and quickly. Under this drive
on the inauguration day alone, 1.5 crore bank account was opened which got a mention in
the Guinness World Record for having opened a massive number of bank accounts in a
single day. Over 15 crore bank accounts were opened in one year with a core focus to
reach every household to deliver pension, insurance, and credit facility to account
holders.

5. Cordial & Flexible Foreign Policies

PM Modi’s foreign policy also talks about the universal fraternity. He focuses on
improving relations with neighboring nations and encouraging them to invest in India by
offering relaxation in foreign policies and other lucrative initiatives. He met various US
business leaders and invited them to join hand with Make in India program. Be it
aerospace, Airbus, bullet train or even manufacturing opportunities he invited the most
powerful worldwide economies to invest in India. He has been successful in sending this
message to the world leaders that India is a “competitive, confident and secure” nation for
business opportunities.

16
6. Economic Reforms and Policy Implementation

Our Prime Minister Mr. Modi’s major concern is to revive Indian economy via core and
major reforms in the sector of export and manufacturing. To achieve this, the government
has not only increased the limits of FDI in Insurance, Railways, and Defense but it has
also privatized loss-making public sector organizations. Despite facing the persistent
opposition from his coalition partners, PM Modi kept his focus on economic
transformation. It has already initiated the work on connecting major cities through
Diamond Quadrilateral Rail Corridor project. Several other major reforms and
developments are under process like the bullet train project from Ahmedabad to Mumbai
and many other dream projects like Clean Ganga Drive and 100 Smart Cities.

7. Tourism Industry Got a Lift

Almost in every channel of advertisement tourism is getting promoted and it has been
featured strongly in the government’s action plan. The core objective of this mission has
been to make India a world-class tourist destination. This drive has also included the
major revamp and reformation in visa system in last one year. Visa-on-arrival service has
also been introduced for all leading nations which is a major breakthrough in this
direction. All these initiatives have been analyzed and a major progress has been noticed
in the number of foreign tourist arrivals since 3 years.

17
8. Improving Relations with Neighbouring Nations

Modi–led government is more focused on improving social, economic, cultural ties with
immediate neighbours. This was quite visible by sending out invitations to all heads of
SAARC nations to Modi’s swearing-in ceremony which was the first major, aggressive
and diplomatic move by our Prime Minister. It gave a clear and bold message to the
World that India knows how to celebrate happiness and swearing-in in Asia. This can be
considered as the first diplomatic victory for Modi and India become a major country on
the world map once again.

9. Toilets Building Campaign

Building toilets drive initiated by PM Modi has created a great buzz around and it is a
massive yet unique project to construct 10 crore toilets by 2019 at a remarkable rate of
one toilet per second. Our Prime Minister Mr. Modi also appealed to the corporate
segment to contribute in this Clean India drive. This has actually evoked a positive
response from IT tycoons like TCS and they have promised to build 10,000 toilets in
girls’ schools all over the country. With an enormous fund of 100 crore provisioned for

18
this drive, this is actually a very fundamental yet neglected aspect of basic amenities.
Many other private bodies and institutions have come forward like Oriental Bank of
Commerce, Bharti Foundation, Adani Group, Vedanta Group, and Reliance Group and
pledged support for the campaign and have also contributed open heartedly.

10. Confidence-building Initiatives in Kashmir

This is the most sensitive yet untouched part of India by most of the governments.
Kashmir is an integral part of India but has always been reeling under number of
controversies – both in Centre and State. Modi Government has always acted promptly in
any major issues and situation that may arise in the valley. Recently during the flood
devastations in the valley, Modi government acted immediately and with clean heart. He
kept a constant monitoring system for flood-affected areas and people of Kashmir and
treated them well. He even spent Deepawali with Kashmir flood survivors, which
received applause from his critics also. We can say after a long any Indian politician
could strike a chord with the Kashmiri people.

19
What will India be like in 2047?

That's exactly 100 years from the year of Independence if you have mentioned August 15
2047.
I can't do prediction but I love to see these things to happen in 2047.
Electric Cars and only Electric Cars and I want them from all companies that are selling
cars in India. I want Chevrolet to return India with their Bolt and Volt cars in couple of
years.
Each and every Villa and Apartments having Solar Panels on top of their build covering
entire area of the terrace by leaving space for overhead water tanks.
Bullet Proof glass become normal and it will be using in Windows of house and Solar
Panels on top of every house. Gully Cricket with Cork / Leather ball can hit many
Windows but we don't have to run for escaping from fines and lectures.
Water Desalination Plant in every 50km of coastal region of India. Providing water to
every part of the country and filling the ponds, reservoirs with 80% water and leaving
some place for Rain water to get stored.
Mysore City of Karnataka has started program called “TrinTrin" which allows citizens to
take bicycle from a stand with their membership card and use and keep it any other stand
of the city. I want this to get implemented all over the country no matter it's a Village or
City or Metro.
Public Transport including Trains should run completely by electricity. So that we could
get rid of Carbon-dioxide release into earth's atmosphere. If possible Aero plane should
also use Electricity.
I don't want Robots to replace Human Beings and take out the Job opportunities.

20
ENTRY OF BULLET TRAIN IN INDIA

India has undertaken an ambitious project for a bullet train to run between two of
the country's major cities.

A deal was signed in 2015 with Japan, which is helping to finance its construction.

The project is part of the government's commitment to revitalise the country's creaking
165-year-old rail network.

In the run-up to the Indian election, which gets under way on 11 April, BBC Reality
Check is examining claims and pledges made by the main political parties.

The bullet train project was officially launched at a ceremony in September 2017 attended
by the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

That year, the Indian Ministry of Railways said "all-out efforts" would be made to
complete the high speed rail project by 15 August 2022.

However, officials involved with the plan now estimate that only a small part of the route
will be completed by this time, with the rest finished in 2023 .

21
Conclusion

It is not only the Government's role to make India a developed nation. People of the
country should also take responsibility. Education and Job Creation will be the key
factors involved. Citizens with enough disposable income must do charity as a part of life
- not only to save tax, but with a genuine concern. Collective efforts to educate poor
children and develop rural areas can make a huge difference.

We, the people of India, must vote and more importantly vote for the right candidates
(who can make a difference and who are well educated themselves).

I really hope that India becomes a developed nation sooner than later.
