Terms
IAD
As an integrated access SoftSwitch device, Integrated Access
Device (IAD) provides users with voice service and data service.
Based on IP networks, IAD interworks with PSTN network by
SoftSwitch and auxiliary gateway. Its core is Softswitch.
IAD mainly transforms traditional analog voice signaling to packet
data which can be transferred and exchanged in IP broadband net-
works; it also provides data access function.
TG
As a trunk gateway device, Trunk Gateway (TG) is responsible
for accessing PSTN to IP core network through trunk cable, and
switching voice/fax between PSTN/ISDN trunks and IP networks.
SG
As a signaling gateway agent, Signaling Gateway (SG) is on the
edge of traditional SS7 signaling networks and packet switching
networks. As a peripheral-layer gateway device in an SS system,
SG can effectively realize signaling interconnection between circuit
switching networks and packet switching networks.
AG
As an access gateway device, Access Gateway (AG) accessed ISDN
users, V5.2 users and DSL users to IP networks. AG can also
switch voice/fax between analogue clients and IP networks.
Node
A node refers to the gateway devices that are related to this SS
system in an IP network. Nodes fall into 3 categories, namely
media gateway devices controlled by this SS, such as AG and TG;
other accessible connected SS and related SG.
Zone
A zone is a set of gateway nodes that share some properties. It is
mainly applied in a system that features limited gateway capacity
and excessive nodes.
The following rules must be abided by in allocating zones.
1. The gateway nodes in a zone should have the same device
type.
2. The gateway nodes in a zone must locate in the same network.
3. The capacity of the entire zone must be moderate and cannot
be too large.
AG and TG can act as a zone, but it is necessary for several IADs
to comprise a zone.
The capacity of a zone is based on an SPC board which is responsi-
ble for processing and converting various protocols; besides, SPC
also reports maintenance information to SG or receives control
information from SC. A zone capacity is associated with SPC pro-
cessing capacity after processing the relations between a zone and
a processing board and SPC can process corresponding boards.
SS Control Domain
An SS control domain refers to a domain comprised by a local
SS system and all the controlled devices. Because SS is based
on IP networks, as a result, the SS calling direction falls into the
following categories:
 Calls within a local SS
 Outgoing trunk calls
Calls to other SS through IP network
Module Number
A module number refers to the interior variables during SS interior
design. In ZXSS10 SS1b, a board is a module.
The formula of module number is: SC module number is 0,
standby SC board has no module number. Other module numbers
equal to their slot locations subtracting 2. For multi-shelf cascad-
ing, module number of standby shelf is 40*(shelf number-1)+slot
number-2.

Overview
Basics Do not modify system data when they have been configured with-
out special reasons, because it can affect global data.
Overall Figure 1 shows the ZXSS10 SS1b route configuration flow. In ac-
Configuration tual deployment, you can adjust the steps or configuration items
Relations according to your needs in strict conformity to the sequence of
“basic data-interconnection data-service data-application data”.

Prerequisites Signaling code used by SS affiliated network has been speci-
fied.
Whether the network uses GT code, if it does, confirm the GT
code.
NetNumenN31 has been connected to the database
You have logged in to the Data Configure interface of NetNu-
menN31.
Context Network Properties mainly includes the signaling code applied in
varied networks, SS7 subscriber identifications and routing means.
There are two routing means: GT and DPC+SSN
GT: Free of network type and districts, Global Title (GT) is a
unique identification all round the world.
DPC+SSN: DPC is target signaling code and SSN is sub-system
number. DPC+SSN is local addressing.
An SS system must communicate with IN networks and mobile
networks by SS7 signaling networks when SS introduces services
of these networks. As an interior network conception, traditional
signaling code can be unique just in one network. The provision of
multiple networks corresponds to combining diversified networks
regularly, as a result, communication could happen in varied net-
works and the signaling code in a certain network would be un-
available in other network, that’s why we introduce the conception
of GT.
We adopt GT to identify each signaling point in all networks for
actual communication, but once the protocol reached a network
deep inside, we still adopt the signaling code to find the source or
target signaling point inside the network.

Context This topic describes how to configure SS capacity.
System capacity configuration is an overall plan for the SS sys-
tem, including the configuration of interior node capacity, gate-
way, processing board, route, trunk, number, network type and
black/white list. The system capacity table can bring convenience
to system memory allocation and future expansion. Therefore,
system capacity must be configured reasonably and according to
actual situation to optimize the application of system memory.
