KUKA was founded in Augsburg, Germany in
1898 by Johann Keller and Jakob Knappich. The
name KUKA is derived from the initial letters of the
company name “Keller und Knappich Augsburg”.
KUKA launched into automation in 1956 with the
construction of automatic welding solutions and
the delivery of the first multi-spot welding line.
In 1973, KUKA positioned itself at the ­forefront
of international technical progress with the
­development of the world’s first ­industrial robot
with six electromechanically driven axes. Since
then, the KUKA Robot Group has ­revolutionized
the world of robotics time and time again. And
we’re already working toward the next milestone…
