Intra Debate Rules

1. It will be in the form of extempore debate.

Extempore- Extempore is a speech that is given on the spot without preparation. It is a test
of your knowledge about a topic as well as your ability to express your self in good words
in a framed manner within a limited time. It is the ability to think, organize and then speak.
It helps to come out with a quick sequence of ideas. It also helps to improve fluency in
English. It is the overall presentation of the today language, confidence and composure.

2. There will be an elimination round.

There will be an intra- section competition with the same rules and top 5 rankers from each
batch will qualify for the final round.

3. Topics- There will be five themes and three topics from each theme. Five themes are-
Economics, Law and Policy, Women & children, International Relations and Forms of
Government.
Example- Themes will be A, B, C, D, and E and topics will be like X, Y and Z from
theme A and, P, Q, R from theme B.

4. The topic and side (For/Against) will be picked up by the participant by draw of lots.
5. Each Participant shall be given three minutes to speak on a topic and the maximum time
limit for think over the topic will be twenty minutes.
6. There will be an option to change the topic once but after the change of topic second
topic will be the final topic and no further change in topics will be permitted.
7. No any electronic device and pre-prepared written documents will be allowed.
8. A bell will ring at the end of two minutes to indicate that one minute is left to finish
his/her speech.
9. Another bell will ring at the end of three minutes.
10. Marks will be deducted if the speaker exceeds the time limit.
11. Language of the competition will be English.
12. In case of a tie, another round of extempore shall be held between the two.
13. . Participants will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Matter- Matter refers to your arguments. It simply means the content of your speech.
(10 marks)
2. Manner- Manner is the way in which you deliver your speech. (10 marks)
3. Method. A method is the structure and timing of your speech. (10 marks)
14. No objection shall be entertained as the Decision of the Judges shall be final and
binding.
