The ‘magnificent myth’ or ‘noble lie,’ as it sometimes
translated, is as follows. Everyone sprang from the earth fully
formed: memories of upbringing and education are just a
dream. In fact all citizens are siblings since they are all the
children of Mother Earth. This should make them loyal both to
the land (their mother) and to each other (their brothers and
sisters).
