Apparatus

The equipment used in this experiment is :

i. FESTO Hydraulic Watch Trainer Workbench
ii. Stopwatch
Methodology
A. Flow control by using Throttle Valve
i. Set up the hydraulic circuit as shown in figure 1. For the first part, use
the throttle valve to control the speed of the fluid movement to the
cylinder (actuator).
ii. Adjust the relief valve value to make sure 𝑃1 =49 bar when the
cylinder is free from any load.
iii. Adjust the Throttle Valve to control the speed of retraction cylinder
without load is 1.4m/min (+/- 8 seconds of the retraction cylinder for
the specific distance is 19.5m)
iv. Read and record the other values in the table 1 when the cylinder in
free from any load.
v. Place the load on the cylinder. Read and record again the values in to
the table 2 when the cylinder in retraction state with the load.
vi. Is there any change of speed of retraction cylinder when the load
exerted on the cylinder?
vii. Compare the value of 𝛥𝑃 with the load and without load exerted and
relate it with the flowing rate, QCD.
B. Flowing control by using Flow control valve
viii. Set the hydraulic circuit as shown in figure 2.
ix. Read and record all the values in to table 3 when the cylinder in
retraction state without load.
x. Read and record all the values in to table 4 when the cylinder in
retraction state with load.
xi. Explain on how the pressure compensated flow control valve
maintains the flow rate of the liquid in different state of load. (refer
the figure 2 and the other references)
