SHORT STORY
 Tells about a single event of experience. Its not usually multiple
situations.
 It’s fictional (not true) although it maybe based on something that is
true but over all it's not.
 It’s compose 500 to 20,000 words in length.
 It has a beginning, middle and end just like an essay.
 It creates an impression on the reader, it gives some sort of lesson and
some sort of idea towards the reader.

ELEMENTS OF A SHORT STORY

1. Setting
It tells the reader where and when the story takes place. It really
has a time in a place.
2. Characterization
is a creation of imaginary people who appear to be real to the
reader through several different methods, it's also a way of making
the characters come alive either through how they're speaking, what
they're doing, what they look like that sort of thing. The writer gives
information about the characters in the story to make them come alive
and make the story more interesting.
3. Plot
It's a series of events which in which the writer reveals what is
happening, to whom and why. It’s the little events in the story that lead
up to make the story.

 Exposition
its the part that really sets up the story. The rising action is the
series of conflicts as the story build. It sets the stage for the story often
contains setting or characterization.
 Conflict
are all part of the rising action. It's a problem in the story that
needs to be resolved, there can be more than one conflict in the story
 Rising Action
is a series of conflicts or events which advance the plot and engage the
reader that move along the action that gets you to where the conflicts are
resolved.
 Climax
is part of the greatest tension in the story, it's kind of the turning point,
the part of the most excitement and it's not always easy to tell but it's the
part of the most excitement after which everything changes in the story in
conflicts are resolved.
 Falling Action
Is when things start to fall off a little bit, that kind of tells you what
happened after the climax. It's usually a wrap up now, the thing to remember
some stories have very little falling action, some have really none at all but in
any event it's usually not the bulk of the story it's usually a very part of the
story.
 Resolution
Is how of all the conflicts have been resolved in the story, sometimes
they're solved sometimes they're not but it is really the way the story is
wrapped up the resolution.

4. Theme
It’s the message that the writer intends to communicate by
telling the story, it’s also one of the most difficult elements to
understand. It’s different from the topic. Themes can’t really be
expressed in one word, a theme wouldn’t just be courage but it might
be courage we’ll help in all situations or courage will help you in difficult
situations.
5. Point of View
The position of the narrator of the story and what the writer sees
from that vantage point. In instance it could be a first-person story
whether it’s written from the perspective of I or it could be from the
perspective of a third-person. Actually it's important what point of
view it's written from because author can reveal information or hold
information back based on that point of view and it's really a device
that the author's can use to make the story more interesting.
