THINGS WE DO THAT KILLS US

In this age of fast living and little thinking, certain things have become such an everyday

aspect of our lives that it might come as a shock that they are actually the deadliest things around.

It is no mystery that most of the things that we use or do every day aren’t very healthy. Our life

has become so stressful and so busy that we pay very little attention to what we eat or do. Certain

thing have become such an everyday aspect of our lives and we usually find it difficult to live

without it. The list of it must be very shocking or never imagined that these things are slowly

killing us. The plight of majority of the population, especially the youth, continues to suffer from

these vices and/or bad habits. These factors commonly hinder people to grow as an individual due

to bad influence. Things have become a norm in our society. Harm and danger is now, in reality,

are already common issues as compared before.

First on the list are our mobile phones. There are two ways mobile phones can turn harmful

or even fatal to humans. First is the radiation of the phone. Cellphones emit radiofrequency energy

(radio waves), a form of non-ionizing radiation which might have the potential to cause certain

types of cancer or other health problems. The effect of mobile phone radiation on human health is

a subject of interest and study worldwide, as a result of the enormous increase in mobile phone

usage. The second way that mobile phones are unsafe comes from the batteries that the devices

use. There have been many instances when the damaged battery has exploded and injured the

owner of the phone. “The scientific debate about potential risks from the radio frequency

electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs) of mobile telecommunication is ongoing, accompanied by

considerable media discussion about whether electromagnetic fields from mobile phones cause

adverse health effects. It is also said that mobiles phone help develop cancer."(Grummich and

Tannert,2009)
Next, is fast food healthy? You know the answer. Fast food is almost universally dangerous

and should probably carry a warning from the surgeon general. Street foods are filled with germs

and are prepared in various unhygienic conditions upsetting your general health. Chain store foods

are deep fried and consist of high total calories and saturated fat and are a principal source of

Trans-fat that harms your health. “Rising prevalence of obesity is often referred to as a public

health epidemic because it is associated with so many health problems"(Marlow, 2012)

In addition, processed foods are stored in our fridges because they are time saving and

quick to cook along with being delicious. But did you know they can be harmful. This food stuff

makes the unhealthy list because they contain lots of sodium and sometimes fat as well as some

preservatives like nitrites. The effects of cold cuts and processed food on your health depend,

however, on which ones you choose and how much you eat.

Sodas are a favorite to many. Most of us are aware of the harm that they cause to our body

yet we drink them anyway. If you are a person who regularly drinks carbonated cola drinks you

need to stop it right now. Other than harming your teeth, carbonated beverages have a high sugar

and acidity level which causes the risk of calcium and magnesium loss from bones due to a change

in the body’s pH levels and also make you obese.

Sleeping. Everyone loves to turn off that stupid alarm in the morning and wish to oversleep.

But did you know oversleeping can be harmful? Infrequent oversleeping is okay. But if you over

sleep every day for a very long time there can be some dangers. Oversleeping has been associated

to a lot of medical problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and increased risk of death.
Not to turn people into paranoid, overly-cautious, hypochondriacs but it’s a big, crazy, world out

there, with plenty of unexpected threats. From your dental hygiene to freshwater snails and even

your doctor’s handwriting, there are a lot of unexpected things to look out for. Now that we learned

even just a glimpse of those things, maybe somehow we can try to avoid them even if we don't

directly feel the results. Always remember, prevention is better than cure. Let us not wait for these

things to manifest themselves and create a bigger problem.
