Closing the Digital Divide

In the US, only 71% of the population has access to

broadband internet. As far as education goes, schools are
considering giving each student some sort of laptop or tablet to
encourage more learning on their own. The problem with this arises
when the student takes home their laptop and does not have access
to the internet. This problem is recognized highly in lower economic
class homes. A solution to this problem would be to create
downloadable assignments that students without internet can
access at home.
The main reason many people do not have internet access is
because of the cost. Making internet access more affordable will
close the digital divide even more. Making the internet more
affordable to lower income households will make people more
successful in their education and careers.
