Utilization of Ferronickel Slag for Magnesium
Metal and Ferroalloys Production
Ferronickel slag contains SiO2, MgO and FeO as main component. Small amount of NiO, CoO,
Cr2O3, Al2O3 and CaO is presence in the slag. Typical slag composition: 0.12%NiO, 0.02% CoO,
8.10% FeO, 52.20% SiO2, 35.69% MgO, 2.03% Al2O3, 1.36% Cr2O3 and 0.38% CaO.
The liquid metal has following chemical composition: 48.7%Fe, 36.8%Si, 7.2%Cr, 2.68%Al,
2.3%Mg, 0.73%Ni, 0.46%C, 0.121%Co.
FACTSAGE calculates under ideal condition and at equilibrium. The experiment shall be carried
out in tube vacuum furnace using graphite crucible under vacuum environment in order to
study the possibility for extraction of magnesium metal and ferroalloys from ferronickel slag.

kapita pada tahun 2005 dan 1,5 kg / kapita pada tahun 2010.
Dengan menggunakan data jumlah penduduk Indonesia pada tahun 2010 sekitar 237 juta jiwa
maka perhitungan konsumsi baja tahan Indonesia pada tahun 2010 adalah 355,5 ribu ton.
