• Writing a CV is one of the most crucial tasks of your career.


• It shows your worth on a piece of paper – i.e. through a CV
you present yourself on the paper.
• A well made CV can turn help you in a positive way.
• The key is that you should look as good on paper as you are
in person, or even better.
• The specific guidelines include:

– Length:
• When you are starting your professional career, a one to
two pages CV is sufficient.
– Emphasis:
• Emphasize the things you have done that;
a) Are more relevant to the position for which you are
applying.
b) Show why your accomplishments and achievements
that make you better than other applicants.
c) Are recent.

• Give specific accurate details about yourself, rather than
general and vague one’s.

– Writing Style:
• Without sacrificing content, be as concise as possible.
• Have continuity.
• Do not give the impression that you are praising yourself.

• Be careful in all these.
• Many layouts are available nowadays.
• Select the one that is professional.
• There should be no spelling and typo mistakes. 4

• Opening section:
– Your name, address, contact numbers, and email address.
– Your “career objective” (important for new entrants in the job).
Align your objectives with the job you are applying for.
• Education:
– Schooling beyond high school: names and locations, dates
attended, degrees and certificates.
– Major, significant courses, GPA, special skills etc.
• Work experience:
– Employer names, dates, location; titles and positions held
– Can also include your job responsibilities.
– Add volunteer work, if any.

– Academic honors, professional certificates and awards,
publications, etc.
• Personal data:
– Miscellaneous information like your language skills, computer
skills, interests and hobbies.

• Poor template and formatting.
• Lack of commitment.
• Underselling (i.e. not focusing properly on your) skills and
experience.

4. Highlight achievements and performance.
5. Emphasize key skills.
6. Control your timeline:
– Your resume is a selection of your most relevant work history.
– If you an entry-level employee, your internships take up valuable
space.
– Omit experience that dates back further than 10 years
unless it’s essential to your narrative
