Reflection over Measurement Activity

1. What tools of measurement are used to find Mass, Volume, and Length?

The tools of measurements to find mass are a triple beam platform balance, graduated

cylinder, and a ruler.

2. How is the Mass of an item measured? (Be sure and include step by step instructions)

The mass of an item is measured by a triple beam platform balance. First you make sure that

the line aligns with the zero. Then you place your item on the balance and measure by

moving the slides and finding the mass.

3. How is the Volume of an Item measured? (Be sure and include step by step

instructions)

The volume of an item is you place a liquid in a graduated cylinder and measure it there.

4. How is the Length of an Item measured? (Be sure and include step by step

instructions)

The length of an item is measured by getting an item and measuring it either with a ruler or a

meter stick.

5. Compare your estimates for Mass to the actual Mass. Describe how similar or

different they were.

My estimates for mass were pretty similar to the actual mass of the objects.

6. Compare your estimates for Volume to the actual Volume. Describe how similar or

different they were.

My estimates for volume were a little off but for the most part pretty similar.

7. Compare your estimates for Length to the actual Length. Describe how similar or

different they were.

My estimates for length were off only because I didn’t know the centimeters and inches.

8. Describe the process of remembering how to measure Mass, Volume, and Length. Did

you make mistakes? How did you learn from them?

The process of remembering how to measure isn’t that hard all you really have to have is

basically common sense. I didn’t make mistakes but I know for the future I definitely will.

Mostly because of Volume.
