Sudha Murthy is an Indian social worker and author. Murthy began her professional
career as a computer scientist and engineer. Sudha Murthy’s “Wise and Otherwise” is
one such book that has episodes beautifully crafted from reality into words and depicts
life the way it is. Read the stories from the book titled “Wise and Otherwise” and answer
the following questions.
1. Write a character sketch of any character that you like. Support each trait by
mentioning examples from the stories.
2. Choose any one story from the book and rewrite it using rich vocabulary. Replace
the central character with yourself and let other characters remain the same. You
can change the setting and situation of the story. Add interesting illustrations and
present the story in the form of a story booklet.
3. Select a story from the book and complete the given story map.

1. The students will make a Collage on at least three values that you have learnt from
the novel. (use A3 size sheet)

1. The students will construct a slogan for each picture they include. For
example- there are incidents in the novel where in the author is moved by the-
helping nature, honesty, positive thinking and generosity of the person. You
are free to choose any other value that influences you.
2. If you are good at drawing you may also sketch the pictures or may also draw a
Social Science cartoon strip.
3. You can make your collage more appealing by including quotes of famous
people.

in the novel. (use A3 size sheet)
• Instruction:
1. The students may depict problems like plight of women in India and how it has
changed over time. Corruption and politics of India etc. You are free to choose any
other such problem that you notice.
2. You can make your poster more appealing by including quotes of famous
people.

Holiday Assignment:-
1. Map Work –
(A) Major soil types in India (Use at least 2 maps, use colours to show soil, use index
properly)
(B) Rivers- Ganga, Narmada, Kaveri, Brahmaputra, Indus, Mahanadi. Godavari, Krishna,
(Maps should be pasted in Geo- Note book)
2. Research on water harvesting in India. How is it done? What are the different methods? How
was water harvested in ancient India?
Go for extensive research and write it down in A4 size ruled sheets. Support your write up
with pictures on water harvesting.
3. Soil – Explain different types of soil in India and the method of their conservation with
pictures. (To be done on A1 size sheets and presented in file cover)
