Introduction
2
The pace of change is accelerating. For example, the development of
mobile technology has played an important role in shaping the impact of social
media. Across the globe, mobile devices dominate in terms of total minutes spent
online. This puts the means to connect anywhere, at any time on any device in
everyone’s hands.
If the researchers are able to produce this study, they will get to know the
different effects and information about Social Media from the high school students
as respondents. From there they can establish awareness about Social Media.
With this study, we are ought to give prior notice to these effects of social
media to us, students in order for us to fully understand why and how this affects
students and their learning.
1. What is the status of social media to one of Holy Rosary College students?
2. What are the effects of using Social Media in educating of High School
students in Holy Rosary College?
3. How can Social Media affect the learning of students? Why do students keep
in touch to Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube?
Hypothesis
The researchers presume that the Grade 9 and Grade 10 students of Holy Rosary
College used social media excessively.
The importance of the study is that to know how much the students in Holy
Rosary College used social media excessively. And to determine what is the most
frequent social media they used to.

Literature Review
Underpinning Theory
According to Chou, Condron, and Belland (2005), there are few studies
found that there is a relationship between internet addiction and users' social -
psychological or personality variables, such as sensation seeking, pleasure
experiences, use-and-gratification, loneliness, and depression. Besides that,
there are also few significant factors which associated with the internet addiction
such as, drinking behavior, dissatisfaction with family, and experiences of
stressful event (Lam, Peng, Mai, & Jing, 2009).
4
The activity of play has been ever present in human history and the
Internet has emerged as a playground increasingly populated by gamers.
Research suggests that a minority of Internet game players experience symptoms
traditionally associated with substance-related addictions, including mood
modification, tolerance and salience (Daria Joanna Kuss, Mark D. Griffiths, 2012).
A total of 58 empirical studies were included in this literature review. Using the
current empirical knowledge, it is argued that Internet gaming addiction follows a
continuum, with antecedents in etiology and risk factors, through to the
development of a “full-blown” addiction, followed by ramifications in terms of
negative consequences and potential treatment. The results are evaluated in light
of the emergent discrepancies in findings, and the consequent implications f or
future research (Daria Joanna Kuss, Mark D. Griffiths, 2012).

Summary
The social media adoption rate continues to grow. This Social Networking Site
(SNS) was very popular to the world especially to students. Therefore we conducted a
study about “The status of Social Media use of grade 9 and 10 students in Holy Rosary
College”. We conducted this study in order to know if/how social media was used by the
students, whether it is a positive or negative. We oversee some solution by choosing
random respondents/ interviewees from grade 9 and 10 students to answer the
statements that we made in a survey/questionnaire paper as our instrument for our
research to know if social media was used by the grade 9 and 10 in a negative or
positive way regarding to their academic performance. For us to get the results we use a
qualitative-descriptive approach. As a result from our 50% male respondents and 50%
female respondents, ages ranging 18-below, here are some social networking sites that
8
a common student use. 33.6 % of them uses YouTube, 27.9% of them uses Facebook,
19.7% of them uses Instagram and 18.8% of them uses Twitter, and the amount of time
spent by the students are 17.647% of them uses social media 1hour and below,
36.275% them uses social media 1 to 3 hours and 46.678% of them uses social media 4
hours and above. The research that we conducted is a proof that many students are
influenced to consume their time by using different kinds of social media.
Conclusion
Recommendations
2. For the future researchers, we do recommend that you will consider the
effects of social media to the relationship of a students to their family, behavior
and to their social life.
3. For the future researchers, we do recommend that you will find another
kind of social media that may affect to the students.
