Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

Passing the Praxis Core Exam is necessary to be accepted into a college of education at UNLV,

NSC, or UNR. The passing of the Praxis Core Exam shows one's understanding in Math,

Reading, and Writing. To pass the Math Praxis Core Exam one must receive a score of 150, to

pass the Writing Praxis Core Exam one must receive a score of 162, and finally one must receive

a score of 156 to pass the Reading Praxis Core Exam.

Exam Preparation

Before taking the Praxis Core Exam I prepared by reading over the different study links

provided. By reading about the exam I had an idea of what to expect and what the questions

might be like. To prepare I used the Praxis Prep websites and used the study guides provided.

With that, I felt as though I was most prepared for the writing and the reading test but ended up

doing the best on the math exam.

Exam Results

When completing the Praxis Core Exam I was completely surprised by the scores that I

received. In Math, I scored in the 66% range, meaning that I need improvement. In Reading, I

scored in the 39%, which means that I need significant improvement. Lastly, in Writing, I scored

60%, which means that I also need improvement.

Future Exam Preparation

To further prepare myself to pass the exam, I need to study more and take a practice test

in a more realistic location. I believe that purchasing a study book or online program will benefit

me greatly, so I do plan to purchase one. I typically work best on my own so studying with better

materials with benefit me more than working with a tutor. After studying more, I plan to use the

free Praxis Prep website and purchase the second practice test. Lastly, when taking the practice

Praxis Core Exam again I will do it in a quieter environment. When taking the Reading exam, I

took it at my mother's house that was filled with conversations, kids playing, and a movie. With

that, I was not able to focus and performed the worse in what is my best subject. When taking the

Math test, which is my worst subject, I did the best because I took it at my own home in silence.
